Hi BF! I'm new to the forum and kinda new to knife collecting. I've owned pocket knives since I was a kid, SAKs, a Gerber, a CRKT, some other cheap stuff...
I've recently started carrying/collecting nice knives. Just Spyderco and Benchmade yet. I've tried to like ZT but they're too beefy and cold feeling for my taste, if that makes sense.
Tendency is to pick up a larger specimen and a smaller specimen - for instance, I have a Spyderco Caly 3 CF and a Chaparral 1. Recently I decided that I must have that ultra lightweight Al Mar sexiness, so a Falcon and a Hawk rose to the top of my list. But after reading about Al Mar customer service and whatever scandal is going on, I'm a little hesitant to want to support that company. However...
...Moki, who apparently makes those knives for Al Mar, makes 2 very similar - the large and small Blakiston's Fish Owl. A little more traditional. I kinda want the thumbstuds, but I'm also kinda willing to spend less money and support Moki and go with a traditional style blade deployment.
I'm wondering if any of you have direct experience comparing the Mokis with the Al Mars, or with Moki's customer service. Doubt I need it, but costumer service is something on which I place an absolute premium - and so far both Benchmade and Spyderco rock in that regard.
Thanks for your input, and thanks for spreading this knife collecting sickness! ("sick" can mean "cool," apparently)
