Al Mar Sere 2000 or CR Sebrenza??

I own both. You can't go wrong with either. I just acquired the SERE 2000,(the new one with the black blade and clip), and I'm very impressed. I had heard of some of the previous probs with lock-up and sharp thumb studs and they have been resolved. Mine is solid as a rock. For the money, you can't lose.

Good luck with your S2K and let us know what you think. :)

I almost passed on this thread, but needed to chip in on two points: I use my Sebenza when the task is messy, because you can't (almost never!) gum up a Sebbie, you can clean it. And, yes, the handles of my EDC are a bit scratchy. Sebenza means "work", and it does. It gets scratched, and thats OK, cuz thats part of working. I love mine, would not trade it for a Benchmade + Al Mar + Spyderco. It is the one folder I would rely on for backpacking, not that it would be the only blade I would carry, just the most reliable folder. Enjoy the Al Mar, start saving for the Sebenza!

I have both and, of course, like the Sebenza better. With that said, let me say this: the SERE is significant bang for the buck. The pride of ownership, satisfying feeling that all of the engineering, close tolerances, fit and finish, thoughts of Chris and Anne are all part of the mystique of CRK; at least to me. There is not mistique about their durability and reliablility. But they do cost.

I say that to indicate the areas where the SERE is the hands down winner. It is the hands down winner of your knife becomes lost or stolen. We all talk about lock strength, spine wacking, hardness, temper, bushings, bearings and frame integrity, but as much is not more of the risk facing an an EDC is it turns up missing!

I do not say that you buy a Chinese POS as it may shine in this area, but that one factors function, price and other issues in deciding an a practical EDC.

Bottom line, you'll get the Sebenza eventually, most true Knife Knuts do. But, you could do an aweful lot worse than the SERE2K for a rugged, quality, EDC.

BTW, I like the idea of a SERE2K, a BM710HS and cash in the coffee can!

I own a Sebenza, and I've handled a SR2K. I love my Sebenza, but would really like to have a SR2K also. I want to re-emphasize that from all I've read, the lock problems the SR2K had at first have apparently become a thing of the past. The too sharp thumbstuds have also been changed, I believe.

I'll never forget Jeff Randall's review of the SR2K when he reviewed it during use in South America. He used a length of wood to pound on the blade spine to split wood. He also used the wood to pound on the butt of the knife to drive it through a 2" sapling. I think the Sebbie would probably survive that, but I sure as heck won't risk mine to find out!

Good luck with your choice.

Hi everyone,

the SERE 2000 arrived today, and I just wanted to say that my initial impressions are very positive. The knife is a lot more knife than I had expected ... seems to have a good solid lock, and for my hands, avery comfortable handle.

My only problem/complaint is that I was sent a black bladed knife, not a silver one like I ordered. But that is a very minor problem...I like the black blade! And it is too far to send back!

Summary...it looks and feels like a great knife, adn I fully intend to give it a serious workout this weekend!.

Thanks again for all the advice, etc,.

Cho
