I ordered a SERE 2000 off ebay yesterday and was curious as to what everyone here thought of it. I narrowed it down to BM 520, Spyderco C95, Lone Wolf T2 Ranger, and the Al Mar SERE 2000. It is my first knife of, hopefully, many to come. What do you guys think of Al Mar as a company? Also is VG-10 steel good quality? The only downside I read about the knife on these forums is its weight, but that wasn't much of an issue to me. Thanks for any input.

You got yourself an AWESOME knife!! You did good!! Al Mar is an excellent company. Yes, VG-10 IS good quality.

Also you might PM a member here who goes under the name of "fulloflead". He likes and probably knows real well, the Al Mar Sere 2000.

You now own a "classic". There is a whole cult group of Sere 2000 owners. I think it is one of the best looking and well balanced knives every made by anyone.

I got one for Xmas. I own many folders (production) and it is by far the best folder. My new BM Rukus is a close second, but the Al Mar is still the best in fit and finish.

Everything ive ever read on it is good; built like a tank, strong lock up.vg-10 is great, too. you cant go wrong with this one........

Bew 556, If you picked it up for 120 or less you got a great blade. Pulled mine out of the box and did not see the blade steel marked on my older one, but if yours is VG 10, you will love how sharp you can get it and how it holds an edge. Also it has a low rider pocket clip. Goldie was right in saying "it's built like a tank" but you are going to be hard pressed to find a smoother, stronger, liner lock. As for Al Mar product expect quality and high end materials. Enjoy your purchase, it will serve you well

It is a great knife, one of the best linerlocks ever, great comfortable handle, useful blade shape, and easy to sharpen. And it almost invisible in the pocket due to the low carry clip!

It’s a great knife. The build quality and materials are top notch. Some people don’t like the liner lock, but I’ve never had any problem with it. I only stopped carrying my SERE 2K when I got my Sebenza, but I intend to hang on to it.

With your purchase you have just vaulted to the top of the production folder heap and now own a quality linerlock which you can measure all other production folders by. Congratulations and enjoy ! Please keep us posted on your develping impressions of the SERE once it arrives.

-regards

I've owned 3, maybe 4, of the SERE 2000 folders, and the only complaint I have with 'em is that the blade could be alittle longer.

It's a fine knife, but wait until you try a Lone Wolf T-2. :) Or a BM 710.
When Lone Wolf get the fit and finish right they can make a very nice knife, but, in my experience, they don’t seem to offer the consistent quality of the SERE 2K.

The SERE2K is one of the best production folders. Period.

Whether it is better or worse than other top production folders is a matter of opinion, but few people disagree that it is one of the best and a great bargain.

Actually I don't think I put that in my list of knives I was chosing from but the LW t2 ranger was another knife I almost decided on as well as the rsk mk1. I think I will be happy with this one though from the responses I am getting. BTW I bought it for 128$ of ebay brand new in the box. I'll let everyone know what I think when I get it. Thanks again for all the replies, way more than I expected, and not one "use the search function." :p Thanks.

A superb knife. One of the classic production, heavy-duty folders.

Now save up for a Spyderco Manix and a Benchmade 710!

OK, I got my sere in and love it. Of course now I want something that is more people friendly(smaller) and something I can carry around work without weighing down my pocket. Would the ideal knife for this be the mini rsk mk1? It's light and much shorter in length than my sere 2k. Anyone recommend a knife around the size of the mini rsk mk1 that is better?(more durable maybe?, not familiar with how durable the mini rsk mk1 is) Any thoughts would be great, thanks.

can't go wrong with the mini rsk mk1. But I prefer the 707 in my pocket when wearing dress pants. As for sheeple friendly issue.. I usually carry a big blade in the back pocket and a cricket on my keychain and exercize discretion.
