(Al Mar SERE 2K)Need some info please...

i've had 2 SERE2000's and did not have these issues. in fact, i moved over to Spyderco's because i started to dislike thumbstuds, but i found the sere2000 the smoothest opening 'thumbstudded' folder ever and did not find the stud sharp.......

i'd check if the pivot is not tightened too strong and also check if the blue teflon-washers are in good condition.

If you have a dremel you can smooth out the ball detent using a cone shaped grinding bit. Use the ones that are made of rubber and have the grit embedded in them. Use the lowest speed and just slightly break the edge of the hole in the blade where the ball detent rests. You have to go slow, because if you do too much the blade won't stay closed (ask me how I know this :) ). If you don't feel comfortable doing this I would reccomend just cycling it a bunch of times, which will accomplish the same thing. Good luck, Al Mars are great knives, you won't be dissapointed.

It might seem obvious but it sounds like you just have the pivot tightened down way too much. On my S2k a simple nudge with the tip of my thumb will allow the blade to swing into place.

Well, after adding some Militec to the pivot and using a blow dryer to heat it up some, the action has smoothed out a bit more. Oh, and Lobo, thanks for the tip, I was just thinking the same thing about the pivot. ;)
