Really quick, does anybody remember what steel was used in these lockbacks from the 80s? I've tried to search both here and google but can't seem to come up with anything other than "stainless." I would guess AUS-8 or 440C given the time period, but really don't know. Thanks in advance.

Do you mean that because of the era mentioned, Thom, or is that what you're remembering for these knives?

It's what I'm remembering from a Blade magazine. They showed Al Mar and his frontlocked SERE with AM-6 steel.

My 1990 SERE fixed blade is marked AM-6 steel, and I remember that lots of the Al Mar’s of this period were the same steel.

I had a tiny Al Mar dagger with the same marking.

I always assumed that it was Aus-6.
