Al Mar Sere Operator vs Fallkniven A1 Survival Knife

This knive will be my "Oh Shit" backup knife.

Consider how many times a knife has been used in self-defence in the ~ 350,000 man/years the Allies have been in Iraq.

Don't burden yourself with another pound of useless, awkward kit.

I ended up ordering and Ranger RD 6" for my battle rattle. I understand that the chances are very remote that I will have to use it in Iraq, but I've always been a be prepared kind of guy. If I don't use it, I can always use it one day on a hunting or fishing trip anyway. It definitly won't always go unused because the knife has great utility.

maximus otter,

I know the allies haven't used the knife very many times. But those "little sheet heads" have used it a great deal and to good effect. Sometimes a gun is overkill and sometimes you don't want to give your postion away. I'd ratter carry around the extra ounces and have it, than to not have it and say oh shit a knife would be real handy right now. I understand and appreciate your point, but I just think differently I guess since I won't have to carry it around daily, only on special missions. Thanks!

The Ranger is probably a fine choice, it gets really good reviews. I'm a little late, but wanted to mention that I was looking for a knife that handled a bit more like a fighter, and found the SERE Operator fit the bill, fast in the hand and nice shape. As a result, of course, you wouldn't want to do any prying with it. And the false edge along much of the top means batoning isn't always convenient, though I don't imagine you'll be doing much of that there.

I considered the Sere Operator by AL Mar but was told it was not sturdy anough for what I was looking for. No matter what I think I chose a good knife. If I have to resort to a knife fight in my position things have really gone wrong. If you are going off to war you might as well have all the nice tools right? Thanks for your support gentlemen and your advice.
