I would like to hear your opinions on which of these two knives you would buy and why. I am comtemplating picking up one or the other, and haven't made up my mind either way. Any feedback on either knife would be appreciated.

I've only had my SERE2000 for about a month, but am very impressed with
the overall design and very high quality. It slices very well, and out of the box was the sharpest knife I've come across. It is built for hard use, with a stout locking liner, and impressive blade thickness of
.140".The large, well shaped handle allows for comfortable use. This may well be the best $120 folder now available,if toughness and high
quality are of prime importance.

Without question, my choice would be the MT. The satin finish blade is now available on the MT mini socom elite also and I would go for that over BB or SW.

I have never seen or handled a Microtech knife, but the illustrations I have seen make them look like marital aids off the USS Enterprise.

The SERE 2000 is a knife. Take a look at the site below:

Try to find a site saying similar things about Microtech products.

My SERE 2000 is what you Yanks call a "Go to" knife. If the truth be told, I would probably prefer to have the SERE than my Sebenza with me on the proverbial desert island. The SERE is a Challenger tank hammered into a knife. The Microtech? "Urban/Tactical mall ninja kit."

They're both great knives. The SERE is a little more than what I would call a pocket knife. Then again, I prefer G-10 over T6 aluminum.
My suggestion is...... Get both of them. You only live once!:)

Do you think this picture is true? IMO, the cut looks too smoth to be done by a folder.

I own both an Al Mar SERE and Microtech mini SOCOM elite (auto), and i have to say without a doubt I would take my AL Mar any day. Not only is it built like a Panzer tank, but the action on it is incredibly smooth. AL Mar 100%

Ireed,

The article that picture came from indicated that the author "severed 2 inch sapling by hammering the blade through with a large stick". Sounds reasonable to me. I ordered one from NewGraham last week, I let you know how it compares to my BMs.

Regards,

Shaun.

comparing the MT SOCOM mini( a fairly small knife) and an AM SERE (a pretty big knife) is like comparing apples/oranges imho. ya should try a MT SOCOM elite, have had all 3 and the SE is the best of the 3 by far, i cant imagine a smoother action than the SE, and i have a few customs to compare it with, i just wasnt nutz about the SERE, a good knife, just didnt grab me. and the mini SOCOM was too small for me, though it was a signature series tanto PE, i wish i woulda kept it now.

I have to agree that the SERE just is awesome, But these two knives are hard to compare, just for the size, But given only one choice I would go for the SERE.

I have both the SERE and few MTs- the SOCOM, SOCOM Elite Auto, Phib, and the LCC. The SERE has nylon washers in it that give it its smoothness. The MTs have bronze or something that looks like it, so they aren't as smooth, although they might be a bit stronger (the washers at least). These are both awesome knives, but I think the SERE is the better value. It is a hell of a great knife for $120. It'll clobber any knife near it's price. I think you should go with which one fits your hand and pleases your eye. The MT is a little lighter than the SERE, so it carries a bit better.

SERE gets my vote. It's my favorite folder, and I've been through a lot.

Is the Sere 2000 auto? And does it come in black blade or at least bead blast, the shiny blade just isn't too tactical. :)

SERE 2000!! Outstanding folding knife.

Actually, I've never even handled a Microtech before. I'm honest.

But, from their pictures, why does it look like the MT's are just two pieces of aluminum handle glued together? Gawd, the pics make them look like cheap pieces of crap.

The SE's look like that. Must be the pics.

What is VG-10 Steel like? How easy to sharpen? what knives compare best to this knife? how does it compare to MOD knives?

VG-10 is a very good steel. I would guess it's comparable (or maybe even a bit better) than 154CM. The edge is very sharp on the SERE, right out of the box. I have an MOD Dieter CQB. Its a nice knife, but not the equivalent of the SERE. There really aren't any equivalents to the SERE in its price range. I would say that I rpefer MT to MOD, though. I would just get the SERE. The only disadvantage is that its a little heavy.
