Al Mar Shadow Warriors still around?

A long time ago, when I was but a lad searching for his first "real" knife, I came across a dagger from Al Mar. I believe it was called "Shadow Warrior". Didn't buy it at the time because I wanted something more on the utility side rather than an all out fighter.

But now, I have quite a few utility knives on my belt (not to mention all the folders and SAKs) and would like to round off my collection with a couple of daggers.

Is it still possible to buy a new Shadow Warrior, and if so, from where?
What are your views on it? (as an investment, as a weapon, edge holding, steel quality, etc.)

I'm also open to suggestions on other daggers or dirks which you think should belong in a collection. (Arty-farty, "display-only" knives need not apply.

I want to be sure I can use it if the need arises, and not be worried that I'm going to shred my hand cause the stupid handle material is like an oil-slick when it's covered with blood and the guard is not worth a dime.)

They can try to take my knives.

Al Mar doesn't seem to be making fixed blades knives anymore. Actually they have been sold recently and no one has seen much of them since they marketed a cigar cutter last year.

There are still a few Al Mar knives, in vendor stock, so you could probably find a good example if you look around. But, expect to pay a small premium.

Its a shame - Al Mar produced many excellent knives before he passed away.

The AL MArr you are looking for is either the Shadow I or Shadow II. They come in two different sizes. I could also reccommend you look around for a BlackJack/EK. These can usually be had reasonably and are time tested designs. I love daggers and have several in my collection. My favorite is still the SF. I have two originals and several copies.

Good hunting.

Thanks guys. I guess it's a real pity that they no longer produce his knives. I have only one example of his work in my collection, and I was really hoping to expand it. I tried searching around where I live (Perth, Western Australia), but couldn't find any. All they seem to have around here are crappy knives at exorbitant prices.

BMWGS80: What is this "SF"? I'm not familar with the initials.

Stellar knives has the large shadow look them up on their web page. I have the smaller one it is very lite and very fast, it is unused I might be interested in a sale or trade.

coyote: Could you supply me with their URL?
Thanks. BTW, I should hope that your Shadow is unused.

But have you cut yourself playing with it?

What kind of sheath does it come with? Do you feel that it's a good fighting blade you can stake your life on?

Steelwolf:

Mike Kyle at M&M Tactical Knives (no URL that I know of) offered me an Al Mar Shadow III for a pretty reasonable price (around $150) about 2 months ago. Email Mike at mmknives@excite.com .

Might I also suggest a Peter Bauchop Witch or Warlock series dagger? See Robertson Custom Cutlery or Beck's Cutlery for the Bauchops.

If you are interested in a gray-handled Gerber Mark II dagger, I have 2 for sale (For Sale Post). One was made in 1976 and has a blued L6 blade, the other in 1977 and is polished L6 steel. Both have some blade staining. Good luck on your search!

Hiya!
The Shadow is by far my favorite dagger!
Sorry, I don't have a source for 'em anymore though.
Here's a pic that was taken a few Halloweens ago... I was Lorena Bobbit.
