Al Mar Shrike and SERE 2000 Pictures

The Sere is always a very nice knife, but I have to say that the old Sere was nicer than this, with its SS bolsters, the engraved shield, and the golden plaque in the grip.
I don't like personally the tip up carry, as I find it VERY dangerous, but the Sere clip allows far better concealment than the Shrike one, and if you carry it against the bottom or back of your pocket, as opposed to a high (forward) carry, it shouldn't present much problems.
If only I could have the old Sere with the one-hand open pin...
It's a collectible, but not a very expensive one, so I think I'll just drill and tap it for the thumb stud and modify the grip to allow for easier stud grip.
Thanks to the steel bolsters I think that also affixing a clip for tip down carry would be easy, with a press drill and tap and die set :)

How much for the new Sere, anyway?

The closest thing and best built knife I've seen that was close to the SERE is one I picked up a few weeks ago; Kit Carson/Vanguard E&E. This knife is what the original SERE should have been! Both designer and maker, Les Roberson and Kit Carson did this knife with the original SERE in mind. The front bolsters on the E&E are pure SERE, while the handle is shaped differently to better accomodate your hand. This is an awesome blade and one that is going to be a limited edition. It is built like a TANK, but easy to handle and feels great in your hand. You just have to hold one to see what I mean! Check them out at www.robertsoncustomcutlery.com I believe he is getting another batch in at the end of this year and if you want one better get your name in the hat.

On another note I sold the last SERE 2000 I had several months ago and have been missing it. Since the Shrike came last week and the fact I reread the article in TK last night about the SERE 2000 I really got to missing it and ordered another one today.............with a little catch, I went ahead and took the dive and got the DA SERE 2000 Vallotin built! Can't wait to get it. I really do like this overnight shipping!!:D :D

WOW, got to hold one today, arrived in the mail and this is an excellent knife! Highly recommend it very much!

And nice pics Rev, very nice!

Sure would look good riding in a G2 sheath! ;)

I'm a little partial to the s2k myself, but I like them both, for slightly different tasks...

I'll tell u what I love...the new double action SERE 2000...with the little pivot in the front of the handle to automatically release the blade open...:p

I've had the DA SERE for a couple of weeks now and I really like it. It is so cool to trigger it then hand it to someone else and watch as they search, and search, and search for a button to open it. Glad I went ahead and got one.:D  :)

Hey Artsog, where did u acquire yours...as I didn't see it on there web-site...and how much more is it than the standard s2k...?

Hey guys, I just got my Shrike in the mail today ^_^ wow, beautiful knife, great design, and VERY SHARP! However, I just had some questions concerning maintenance and the knife in general (I'm a knife newbie in the purest sense!). Right now I'm using White Lightning Knife Lubricant, but the deployment on my Shrike isn't as smooth as I would like it, could you guys give me a couple tips on taking care of the knife and breaking it in, in general? THanks! Oh and another thing, the blade seems to be leaning toward the liner away from the lock. I saw this happen on my Emerson MiniCommander and I was wondering what I should do about it. Could I take it into a knife shop and have them fix it? (the emerson's are relatively easy to fieldstrip but the al mar's are locked up tight) THanks for your help guys!

I use Tuff-Glide lubricant and my Shrike just seems to glide open. The easiest way to fix the off centered blade is to start with the blade opened. Place the palm of your hand against the flat of the blade and push the blade TOWARDS the liner it is touching or nearly touching. The tang of the blade will sometimes fail to seat properly and the extra push will allow it to seat. Let me know how this works out.

Hrm, tried that, doesn't seem to work...Well, I'm sending the knife back and getting a replacement, I think it was just a dud that I got. =( I have all the bad luck! Thanks for your help!
