Ok, so I've had some time to goof around with it a little more. First off, great blade, nice thickness, seems sturdy but still thin, and very, very sharp out of the box. I don't know how much use it's gotten yet, but it'll easily shave.
The blade, however, seems small given the size of the handle, it almost looks like it is mismatched, as if there were two sizes and this one had the small blade in the large handle.
The handle is very comfortable and gives good control in use, due to it's nice curve and substantial thickness.
Unfortunately I think it's too big for EDC, at least for me. It is a fat knife, so in a back pocket it would be noticable to the carrier, especially when sitting, I generally prefer knives with thinner profiles, especially pocket-clip types. It does have a good clip, although it is placed around the pivot pin, and so almost an inch rides above pocket when clipped. It's also relatively heavy, due to the stainless bolsters.
The thumb stud gives very positive grip, and it is easy to open, although the action is so smooth and fast that it will cause the aforementioned problem of getting ahead of your thumb and cutting you. For that reason I prefer flicking it, which is very easy, and ends with a satisfying CLICK!
While it is a very well-made knife using excellent materials, I think it suffers from poor design. The design is neither very useful for general utility or hunting (to my eye, anyway) nor is it as aggressive as I would like for self-defense purposes.
Anyhow, a statement of the importance of the combination of the best materials AND great design.
