Hello,

Have any of you had to send in an Al Mar knife for repair? If so, how long did it take to get back?

I sent Al Mar my new SERE 2000 due to verticle blade play. It has now been 6+ weeks and I have not heard back. Should I be concerned?

Thanks,

Nik

I sent my Al Mar in a few years ago for a screw which broke on the pocket clip after a nasty snag. I called ahead of time, spoke to the owner (not Al Mar, but I forgot his name). He game me an RMA number to reference. I had the knife back in maybe two weeks or so. Six weeks sounds like a bit much. Have you called them? Did you call before sending it in? Did they quote you a turn around time?

Curious to hear how it works out. I love my SERE 2000 and I really wish Al Mar would get some more love on BFC... most of that is in their court though.

I called in and spoke to this nice lady who gave me an RMA # prior to calling in. I called them last week and was told to give it a couple more weeks and that they have no way of tracking down my knife. I will call them again today.

No way of tracking down your knife? Isn't that what an RMA number is for? If they can't keep track of your knife, how do they send it back to you? Sorry, man. That doesn't sound good. But, hey. Think about it this way: Al Mar is either A) taking their sweet time and will have the knife back to you after waiting too long; or B) is going to screw you over. Something tells me that B is highly unlikely. Al Mar is a small company and likely has a pretty basic, if not simply inefficient method of handeling repairs, but I doubt they are crooks. Keep us posted.

Al Mar is not a small company and it's run by Gary Fadden. Al Mar died in 1992. Maybe if you contacted them and spoke with someone else, you may get better results.

I spoke to the same lady, Kailee. She said it normally takes around 1-1.5 months to get your knife back from repair. She said she will try her best to track it down and someone will call me within the next couple days.

I'm hoping for good news as I loved that knife & it was brand new!

well its now been well over 8 weeks and I still have not heard back. I left my 3rd message today with the receptionist. She told me someone will call me back. (she said that the last two times aswell and I never heard back). This is truly the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!

I don't think you over reacted. You were frustrated, that is legit. Glad to hear it worked out.

So my knife arrived today. They sent me a brand new knife and everything about it is perfect. Im a happy camper :)

Although I am glad for you that Al Mar made things right, a 6 week turnaround is way out of line especially when you pay almost $200 for a production model.

The only reasons for such a lax effort are 1) poor customer service / warranty dept. 2) so many quality issues that they cant keep up. 3) they are not interested in repeat business or new customers.

Thank you for this thread, I think all companies should be held accountable when taking our hard earned dollars. I will use this information when considering my next knife purchase.
