Hello everyone,
I don't post much on here - I have more to learn than I have to share to be honest. Always impressed with the beautiful knives you guys post on here.
We have been under siege from our 'Snow-magedon' here in Virginia. Mail service has been down for the past several days due to the bad road conditions. Today though, the postman had some treats for me that I have been impatiently waiting for. Most important, above all else, is the arrival of my first custom folder - an Al Warren red stag slip joint, a trapper model. I had the good fortune to handle an Al Warren knife a few years back in Maui in a little shop. I knew then that I would be ordering from Al (I had also seen his work on his website, and was instantly hooked). Well today I have this lovely trapper in hand, and wow, it is a gem. It has New Zealand red stag handles on it, nice and flush, which is pretty exciting for me - I am a half-kiwi myself. I am a first generation American.
I have an ivory trapper on order with Al, and am very anxiously awaiting this additional prized knife from him.
I am using my iPhone for this, and I apologize for the photos. Photography is on my long list of 'things I am not good at':
You'll see that Al included a pocket carry sheath too, which has a good snuck fit.
I am very pleased with it, and that is an understatement. I wish I had better photos, but you know how it is - without having it in hand, it is impossible to really appreciate all of the detail.
You will see in the photo that I also got a very beautiful Case Sowbelly, a WorkSharp field sharpener and a little travel bottle of mineral oil. It was a good Wednesday! That Case Sowbelly deserves its own post which I will have to get to. Wonderfully applied stag, good snap and centering of blades, no wobble, and just impressive. I have one Case knife back for warranty service due to wobbly lock up, but I still think Case delivers quite a knife for the money. I know some folks have reported issues here and there, but I gotta say - when Case gets it right, they knock it out of the ballpark.
Thanks for looking guys. I appreciate these forums - feels good to having something nice to contribute.
Kind regards,
socalmarine
