Alabama Damascus full tang dagger

Tonight I committed to the hole. I also drilled the pilot holes for the pins that will secure the musk ox pieces (plus two extras that I decided were improperly placed).

I cleaned up the handle (for no apparent reason) and did a little work to address the problems with the plunge lines. Still more work top be done there.

Oh yea, I like it! I'm glad to see the hole. Looking forward to seeing this progress!

Not much difference to show. I'm trying to get the blade ready to head out for HT. I spent some time today messing with the hole, rounding it out all around and eliminating any edges. I also added three holes for potential pins in the ivory piece. Not sure yet if these pins will be visible or hidden.

After doing a little more polishing of the ring at the back end and sanding the blade to 240 grit, I sent the blade off to heat treatment this morning. I decided against drilling a lot of swiss cheese holes in the handle... just didn't the the point of doing that. It will probably end up being butt heavy when all is said and done, but I'm not concerned about that.

I have know knowledge on daggers or there use but to me it would seem a knife like that should be handle heavy. It seems a more handle heavy knife is much more nimbe....

Received the e-mail yesterday that the blade is now in Shipping status. I should have it back within a week.

Could we get some in hand pictures after clean up ?
I think its my screen but it looks stubby so if its not
Id like to see How it looks in Hand !

I'll try to remember to take an in-hand shot, but it's not part of my usual photographic record. ;)

I gotta say in general I don't like the in-hand shots I see on this forum because most guys have really gross dirty hands. If you're going to be your own hand model, you should at least scrape the crud out from under your nails. :D

I was planning on spending a lot of time this weekend working on this project, but lower bacl spasms kept me from doing any of the hard work. So instead I turned my attention to shaping the front (bolster) pieces of the handle so I can make progress on getting the resit of the pieces laid out and sized. The still need some fine tuning, but the rough shaping is done (using hand files mostly). Going for the shape of a bone, for the most part.

I hope you don't take this as an insult (take it as a compliment)
My first thougt was: those bolsters look like a female butt.
One of natures finest forms.

Today I spent some time shaping the musk ox butt pieces. More to be done, but I wanted to get the round cuts done and the coarse shaping of the area that will address the hole.
