Alan Davis Folder - OMG!!!

Bout 2months I think and my knife from Alan will be finished I'm pretty excited mines gonna be a flipper tho
He always responds to my emails the same day I send them so he's really easy to work with

Yes, there is something about his work that sets him apart from everybody else, not necesarily better, just different, unique, and beautiful. I have been watching the folder section of the custom makers "for sale" knives for a while waiting for just the right one to come up. They are all amazing and sell quickly, and for good reason. I may have to go this same route and comission one for myself.

As far as the OP's new knife is concerned, an absolute stunner. That just reinforces my love for Alan's wrok. Outstanding!

I think that's cause its truly 'handmade' not done with a robot stamping out identical parts one after another and slapped together in the end calling it handmade. If it is stamped out parts he puts a lot of handwork into them before he lets them go so either way there is a lot of Alan into each piece. There is a diff between turning on the CNC robot in the morning to start making knives and knife parts again while you stand back and sip coffee and watch compared with actually doing them yerself using traditional hand tools and manually operated equipment! There is a diff between grinding the blade yourself and mounting it in the control arm so the grinder can do them one after another grinding them hard like so many do. It shows and hand work shows itself as being unique, one of a kind and so on. I have two of Alan's knives. Both great, both unique and it appears to me that they are true handmades containing something robot made just can't claim, that being soul and character. Again not stamped out assembled parts but man parts done by hand. Not that this matters to everyone I know many just want something that works but it always mattered to me. Personally I kinda like it when a guy does it all himself making his own parts and putting a lot of himself into the work. I'm rather turned off by the ones that all look the same with no real uniqueness to them and you can tell them at the shows because there are 50 or more for sale. The real makers doing the work themselves may have 10 or 15 total if that many. Alan does this and the file work down to the last polished bevel are all part of the appeal and I support that. We need more of them done by men and woman and less done by the robots IMO.
