I just wanted to show off a new knife, and thank Alan Warren for going several extra miles to indulge my pickiness and give me what I wanted.

Alan recently posted this knife for sale. I thought it was beautiful, but a couple of tweaks away from matching my purposes.

A few weeks and emails later, and this arrived -

Pictures (at least any that I could take) really don't do it justice - they don't show in the subtle texture in the blackwood or the mammoth and fossil walrus spacers, or the quality of Alan's finishing.

The blade is 4" and OAL a hair under 8". This is the perfect size for me for a compact EDC fixed blade which could serve for defensive purposes if needed. My hands are medium-large with quite thin fingers. The compact handle and guard work well for me in a fencing grip with the butt of the handle in the palm -

Or in a reverse, edge-in grip -

Or with the thumb reaching over the top guard for more utilitarian use.

Balance is perfect - just at the back of the first mammoth spacer. Made from 0.17" stock, it's robust with a stout tip, but the hollow grind means it's still a decent cutter for EDC use. It's essentially like a really fancy, beautiful version of a Gryphon M10, but with a slightly more versatile handle.

The only problem I have with it is that it leaves me wondering if it's too pretty to carry.
