Albers Cutlery Company

I see what you mean. I usually take a new knife and try it on a translucent Arkansas to judge the edge angle and "toothiness" of the sharpening. Most knives will drag a bit. Both knives moved effortlessly across the stone, even without oil. So they must be sharpened t a fairly high degree.

I'll admit I'm behind the times in checking these out more closely. Honestly figured they were beyond me price wise. Even though they're beautiful knives I would have to just admire the ones others post pics of. Then I checked out the website and holy cow!
You mean to tell me that one man makes all those knives at that price:eek::eek: I will definitely be a future customer  I'm astounded now the hard choice of which one I want the most;)

I gotta tell ya, these are truly custom made by one man, at or above GEC quality. I'd get in line quickly.

As I see more folks posting having gotten multiple knives, something tells me these will be like Northwoods: impossible to get. I'll probably stop back by when he implements one per person, so as to give more folks a chance at owning one. That said, I'm happy for his success!

I'm certainly not trying to speak for Eric, but I don't see the comparison to Northwoods. KSF has been limited in the number of knives GEC will make for them and have been dependant on GECs production schedule. Eric will make as many of these as he can, as fast as he can. His livelihood depends on supplying his willing customers with product. God bless him that demand is outpacing supply at this time, when he is still getting his fledgling enterprise off the ground.

The reports of these being a bit stouter than GEC's single blade #15s is encouraging. I prefer 2-blade 15s due to the single blade ones feeling far too slim.

I subscribed to the news letter when the site went live - I am definitely looking forward to updates in the future.

From mastodon to acrylic Eric crafts a beautiful knife. I have been lucky to pickup two, but each was on a separate occasion. I don’t think there is a Northwoods drop frenzy. There seemed to be time during the last release to browse what was available. If you subscribe to the newsletter and follow along on here you should be able to grab one.

I had a longer response typed out, but it comes off as sour grapes, and that's not my intent. I personally see it as the exact same situation as Northwoods. A very small amount of knives, quickly snapped up by a small number of people. That said, again, I am personally glad he sells out of his knives so quickly. I also am not going to be put out if I don't score any of them. As is, I realize that I've made multiple comments in this thread that could be construed as (again) sour grapes. As that is not my intent, I'll take a step back, and come in occasionally to look at the pretty pictures. Enjoy!

If you happened to look at the email in time. ;)
By the time I got home from work and looked at the email, they were long gone.

It's interesting to compare these to Northwoods offerings. I don't sweat the Northwoods releases too much - mostly because they aren't a "have-to-have" knife for me. That said, the one that I do have is one that I had to at least make an attempt at. The Heritage Jack is based off of a rather old example and since the wonderful #86 frame facilitated this recreation and it was offered in one of my very favorite cover materials (red sawcut), I wanted to make one mine - so I did all the right things and managed to walk away with one.

It is entirely possible that Eric's venture will drum up the same kind of frenzy in the future. It's great for him - not so much for us knife collectors. In the meantime though, I am enjoying seeing his work. The variety of cover materials is excellent, the execution of the pattern is very attractive, and the use of a quality stainless steel is going to make for a very high quality tool. I do hope to be able to scoop one up in the not so distant future.

I was able to snag one in micarta - I’m impressed! After seeing all of the maple burl examples, I wouldn’t mind picking up one of those.

I am subscribed to the newsletter and I really hope to score one on this next release. I am partial to the maroon micarta or the Ironwood myself.

Yep! Perfect fit and finish. Feels great in the hand as well!
These are simply amazing pieces of cutlery craftsmanship, Eric does a bang up job on his knives. Fit and finish, design, materials, all winners! I look forward to seeing what patterns tickle his fancy in future runs. I feel very lucky to have gotten one for me and another for a gift this holiday season for my wife, she really likes ironwood. To anyone feeling left out, I wish you the best of luck in getting to acquire one of these fine products. It will truly be worth the wait.

Quiet,

I think you're wrong about the "impossible to get" and "Northwoods" analogy. First off, some of us just saw his potential and background/experience early and could anticipate what was to come. We got in line very early, still had to wait a couple of months, and so were able to acquire some of his first knives last week. I've spoken with Eric often during this process, and in my opinion, his plan is to make as many knives as one man can make and just keep them coming. Everyone can (and should) get (at least) one! Wait yes, impossible no.

I also think this is not only a high quality product, but a high quality GUY. After many connections, I can tell you this is a kind and gentle man. I know that Eric reached out to you personally and offered to make a knife just for you (in response to what he saw as some "shade" cast on his bright intentions to make affordable custom knives) but you turned him down.

I love GEC, but their business model lacks the personal dimension that Eric offers, and the game of trying to get one has become tiresome and convoluted. The only way to get what you want is to pay double on the aftermarket. Northwoods is even worse. Quadruple price and even harder to find. (I do think that killing the SFOs is going to help immensely.)

But Albers Cutlery is quite a different model. Tell Eric you want one, and he'll make it for you. It's just that simple.

I too am anxious to see what comes next in his offering. This current model is a beefed-up GEC 1511xx in personally hand-selected covers and CPM154. This one is able to do harder work. This may be a smaller frame, but it is not a "Boy's Knife". (I think that is exactly what people who love the #15 would have asked for.)

Quiet, my intention is to to cast shade on you here, but only to share with everyone the reality of Eric Albers' model and intention. I find it refreshing.
