About half way down this page is a passage containing the name Albert M. Baer, 'American industrialist', helping to raise funds to buy a large computer to a Polish Astronomy effort.

Our 'Uncle Albert'? He had interests other than knives? Not that I am surprised, who among us doesn't?

Yep...that's Albert! The man was absolutely amazing. He even had a hand in founding the American Heart Association. I'll have to see if I can dig out the details, but I know that after his first wife died, he set out with great passion to start an organization that would help other people with the same ailment. I believe, if I am not mistaken, that he even went so far as to enlist the efforts of the Queen of England to help him with it. I'll have to dig around and see if I'm remembering this all correctly, but I do know, without a doubt that he was one of the most impressive businessmen I have ever talked to or heard about.

Thanks, Debbie. You are fortunate to have known the man. In order to better know our forum members, someday when we're slow here, maybe I'll ask what our members' "other interests" are. Albert Baer was fascinating in his way, but no doubt most of us are too.

I've got to 'know' a few members here, and what they do for kicks... Don Luis has done a very manly task... knitting his daughter a pair of socks. I mean that most sincerely. Larry has his hot-rod car. My own fascination with the lovely ladies of Ellenville is only playful fantasy (engaged to be married in the spring), but I am very serious about my hunting and shooting.

Thanks again.

I think that would be a very interesting thread. This forum is definitely an interesting place to be, and there is no doubt it is because they are all a fun, friendly and interesting bunch. Congratulations on your engagement. Okay, let's see...I do know how to knit, but I have never knit a pair of socks, so I have to say "Hats off" to Don Luis...he would be a great person to be lost with in a survival situation. Phil, maybe you should keep him in mind as you get closer to the wedding date (you know what they say about cold feet) :D I have been around hunting all my life. I love the woods and the hunt, and even though I love to shoot and target practice, I just can't bring myself to shoot the animals. I don't mind the venison though...mmm mmm good. (I guess you'd call that a double standard) I get a kick out of people. My favorite part of my job at Schrade was talking to really irate, frustrated people, and bringing a smile to their voice by the time we hung up the phone. There are very few people who you can't get to smile with you, and I love that. My two favorite places to be is in front of a campfire (love the smell) and in front of the ocean (love the sound). I have been married and have 2 Sons. Now, I just have two Sons. Okay, there's a start...who's next?

I wanted a hand knitted vest but did not have anybody to do it, so a few years ago I decided to make it myself, finding instructions and patterns was the easy part, then I started by practicing with small things, for my daughter who goes camping a couple of times a year I made the socks and an ear warmer band, then I spent a two week vacation knitting my vest and a matching cap, haven´t knitted anything since then.

Tomorrow will be my 26th wedding anniversary, I happen to have a scan of my wedding portrait (a section of it) which I plan to get computer printed, here´s a low resolution version. Marriage has been good to me, I wish you the best Phil.

Luis: What a beautiful photo, and what a great milestone! Happy Anniversary to you and your wife tomorrow. I wish you both all the best and many many more years of happiness together. It is always great to talk to couples who have a successful relationship. Brings hope to a world that can sometimes feel a little hopeless. Debbie

Great, Luis! No wonder I've never been able to coax you into joining me on a babe trolling trip to Ellenville!

My sincere congrats to you and lovely lady.

Phil

Luis,
Congrats on 26 years.
I just passed 23.
Hope you have a special event planned.

Larry

Congratulations Luis! You and your beautiful bride must be doing something (or many things) right! I hope your next 26 years together will be full of blessings and good fortune!

Happy Anniversary Don Luis.
Please drink a toast to you and your lovely wife, from all of us here in the forums.

Bill

Thanks everyone, I´m taking the afternoon off today for some nice dinner at some nice place, TTYL.

Luis

Looks like a lovely lady. Treasure each moment they never come again. Good luck on the future. Just one question who is that ugly nerd in the picture with her. Just kidding, I am certainly one to talk, now you know why I only post pictures of my socks. I am afraid if anyone sees me they may start shoveling dirt in my face. LT

That picture is, of course, 26 years old, I´m quite different now.

You cannot hide from us LT, there´s a picture of you on the web, something about the "author of the month"...
