I’m headed up to Albuquerque New Mexico, any one here know any good places to visit when I’m there?

Thanks... and stay safe out there.

It has been many years, but we really enjoyed walking around Albuquerque's Old Town. There are lot's of neat shops and Mexican restaurants. :D
You might even get to try out your Spanish on the locals.;)

Stay the heck away this weekend. It's the Balloon Fiesta and everything will be totally jammed up.

There is a ton of stuff to do in Albuquerque, depending on your interests and time available.
The North Peak has the La Luz Trail, Tram, a road up from the east, and even a restaurant on top. So to avoid motorist crowds, choose the South Peak. Trail starts at the east end of Indian School. Spectacular!

The downtown museums are nice. There's the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, and right across the street is the Albuquerque Museum. The zoo is nice. Aquarium was OK when it first opened; I haven't been since then.

Did you know that New Mexico wine making pre-dates California's by 100 years? There are something like 40 wineries here now, including some in and near Albuquerque. My favorite was Sandia Shadows, but I don't think it's there any longer.

The Petroglyph National Monument contains close to 20,000 Native American rock art pictures. Only some of the area is accessible by trails, other areas you're on your own to climb up and down the lava escarpment looking for petroglyphs.
Travel time through the park is at least 30 minutes to 4-5 hours, though the average visit is 1-2 hours.
I've spent several days there and haven't covered the entire area yet.

Interested in early Spanish and Native American History, check out the Salinas Missions to the southeast of Albuquerque. Three historic missions with hiking trails, visitor center, driving tours, and ruins. http://www.nps.gov/sapu/index.htm
Similarly, there's the Pecos National Monument up by Santa Fe: http://www.nps.gov/peco/index.htm

Favorite Mexican food is http://www.loscuatesrestaurants.com/loscuates/locations.html . They're in several locations now, but the original is on Lomas Blvd.

Check out Santa Fe Stoneworks in Santa Fe.

IIRC the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in there. I didn't get to see it when I was there because it was housed on base at the time and there was the whole post 9/11 business going on. But it sounded really interesting.

There used to be an exceptional gun store there, don't know if it is still there or not.

We will be in Alb. tomorrow- headed from Colorado to the airport to catch a flight back home after a week in Utah.

Well, I've lived here 12 years, wouldn't say to stay away during Balloon Fiesta.
Only part of town I've seen jammed up is the roads leading up to the parking areas
(Alameda for example). If you want to do the fiesta, there's buses available.
Mmmm, the food. One of my favorites is La Salita, Eubank and Constitution.
Great gun stores? I'd say Ron Petersons is the most interesting one I've seen,
Central just east of the University area. Things to do, I'd second the Tram,
pretty nice at the top this time of year. Have fun!

I was down there about a year ago and we went to the Unser racing museum and the nuclear history museum and both were pretty neat. I kinda feel like an idiot for meeting Al Unser jr. and not knowing it was him at first :o

Don't forget the other 'recreational' activities that Albuquerque is famous for.

Thankfully the mayor doesn't let Cops film in Alb any more, so problem solved.
