Alcohol, Firearms and the Snow Emergency

You've got that right Brother.
We'll be getting snow 'til mid April at least, as usual.
You wanna talk about GRUMPY!!!
Sit down and pour yourself about 3 fingers and we'll mull this thing over...

Its in the emergency plan...
But, Once I hear of a snow storm I stock up on my liquor. I did it last week and will do the same this week. Ill be damned if someone is going to take that away from me.

The above is a good question. One should always have a hefty supply of Whiskey, Everclear, and ammo. My stockpile is well over 20 bottles and 10k rnds of assorted ammo.

I plan on bunkering down in my ammo fort and getting smashed when the time comes.

Up here an overabundance of snow isn't a state of emergency--it's the norm. We just shrug it off and put on a sweater. :p

Sounds like tyranny to me. In a big storm when things don't run, people need to be prepared. But it would apear that the government authorities wants as much control as possible over the people. With roads impassible government control and 911 will not work well or not at all.

Closing down the liquor store is a sure bet that someone(s) will be making the smash and grab. They might as well keep the stores open to reduce the chances of looting. With bad weather, people probably want a drink after shoveling, or for the long evenings with the DVDs and the generators running as the power is out for many.

More people have commented in this post than actually live in King, NC.:D Seriously, Stokes County is about an hour from Winston-Salem out in the country and King is a very small town; I don't think it compares to Katrina/New Orleans at all.
I did not know that declaring a state of emergency affected CCW, but I do now.

What Randy said.
I grew up about 15 miles north of there. The last time I was down for any length of time (about a year ago), people still carried hunting rifles in the back windows of their pickups. King is about as basic and down-to-earth as it gets. Note from the article (if anyone read all the way through it) that although some people did end up getting stopped and were in violation of the law (apparently), no citations were issued and no legal action is being taken. Hmmmm... heckuvan agenda on the part of the police chief there. She basically said that her officers did not enforce a law that has been on the NC books for ... who knows how long?

Is the law right, or constitutional? IMO, no. BUT, it appears that the chief is largely of the same opinion on its consitutionality, since it isn't being strictly enforced.

Its funny, I still see people running in shorts when there is a foot of snow on the ground. I love New England for many reasons!

And opinions do vary.

It is a "dress rehearsal"

You will likely see others all over the country during various natural disasters, power outages etc.

It probably will not always be liquor and ammo. In the already regulated states like the North East it may be a "state of emergency" with the addition that you are not allowed to drive at all, rolling blackouts to keep the power for emergency services, shut down of cell towers, etc.

By doing this, it will be known just how far one could push before people push back. Then when the big squeeze comes, they will know exactly when to call in troops and will have data to justify the action.

But that is just my opinion.

Freedom doesn't mean crap if it can be revoked at any time for any reason. Just my 2 cents.

Dude I am not saying I agree with it, I am just taking a stab at why I think they did it. As far as I read there was nothing illegal about defending yourself in your home.

Yeah, I didn't mean it towards you personally as I got the feeling you didn't totally agree with it.

Here in the Green Mountain State there is a restriction on alcohol and firearms sales during major snow falls.
You are not allowed to buy more than you can carry in your pickup truck.
That is so the rest of the citizens have a fair chance to stock up too.

Gotta love Vermont! :)
