I'm thinking of order some D2 from Aldo to start my slow trek towards a couple folders. He offers a full decarb on the steel for like $14 or something. Is it really worth it? How bad is the carb on this steel when it comes in?

Does anyone have a pic of it that did NOT have carb removed? Just curious as to after cutting, grinding and what not I dont see the point in paying to have cleaned up first unless its bad to the point of being pitted or what not.

Hi Brian, I've wondered this too. Is it blanchard ground or something to make it flatter or some sort of chemical treatment?

For folders, getting the steel precision ground and decarb free is a necessity.

If you have any questions about his material or processes and/or special requests, like you need the steel .082" thick, call Aldo and talk to him.

I never buy the decarb-free steels but, I have a surface grinder and use it on every knife. I recently tried some of Aldo's W2; I took .005" off each side and it was clean as a whistle.

I'll have to look into some precision ground steels. Whats the price difference?
