Aldo's Hitachi blue #2 group buy?

I know I've heard at least a couple of people mention that they wanted some of this steel but didn't have the means or need for a piece that large.

If anyone is interested in doing some sort of group buy. Set up a time limit, calculate orders as a section of a sheet until a whole sheet is reached. Then order and parcel off the sections.

Looming at it where he has it priced, I think it would still be about as cheap as you're likely going to be able to get it...

Anyone else interested? I'd be willing to cut and reship from my shop. There would be minor losses from cutting but not much. Not for profit to comply with forum rules and all.

Cheers.

I had done the math in my head (I swear it was easier than this in college...) and thought this was beating Dictum's price. In shipping, it is. But if you just want a foot or two Aldo only beats them by about a penny per linear foot. (1"x12") at current exchange rates; euros to dollars.

There is benefit of course if you want wider sections. Dictum is 30mm which is just fat of 1.25" in width... But that's about it.

But again, it's stateside, and worth it to me in a big piece like this. But my idea may have jumped the gun a little. Sounded good in my head while driving home from work...

Cheers.

I was going to point out that if you only want a small piece, getting it from Dictum or Workshop Heaven would be just as cheap as cutting up a sheet and having to ship it to ten separate places.

It may be a little while, but I might have a solution for those who want to make a knife from this steel. I am in the works for getting four whole sheets water jet cut in the profiles of my most popular knives. Mostly kitchen/fillet shapes, but probably a simple hunter or two. Once all are done, I may offer some of the blanks in The Exchange very reasonably.

I hope some of the San Mai makers are getting this stuff so then can clad it with some stainless damascus :)

I would be very interested in a few of these.

Great idea!

Somewhere in my head originally I must have transposed a number or fudged up the conversion rate. I had it beating Dictum by several dollars. Not barely a penny... Oops...

Good idea Stacy. Should be a good offering...

Anyone get the tamahagane Dictum offers? Stacy?? How far will 100g go once pounded out?
