It hit me this morning that the forum here would be a good way to spread this alert. My sister in law sent this to my wife.
This is apparently spreading nation wide by the "BAD" guys. The senario takes place in parking lots of malls and shopping centers, a couple of men standing in the parking lot will approach women to sample some perfume, that they are selling. The "perfume" is something that knocks out the recipient, chloraform, ether, something like that. Once put to sleep the women are taken with their car and money and I don't know for sure but it wouldn't surprise me if the lady was raped as well. This has happened in different parts of the country so please warn any and all ladies you know.

My bride of 40+ years would smile, reach into her purse and say "Oh, I love perfume - do you like cordite?". It is a legend, but the grab and run types that haunt some of the supermarket lots (purses on shopping carts on the way to the car, etc.) are real enough, and national. They make good moving targets :D

Serious business but thanks for am chuckle, Wal.

It speaks poorly of our society but I think the best advice is, "never trust a stranger."

Thanks Ted for the expanded info on a "smelly crime". The more we know the better armed we are.

There has been 6 rape cases in Ft. Collins in the past few months probibly from the same person. A few weeks ago my wife was leaving her work at Wal-Mart and was almost to her car when a man came up to her asking for a jump on his car. He said he had jumper cables and it would only take a minute and that his car was parked in an ally in back of the store where alot of people normally park there cars. She said OK and when she pulled her car around there was no other cars around and he was standing by his car with no cables and his hood was not up. My wife is pretty smart and she said to her self this looks funny and be aware. She carries a SIG 239 pistol in 9mm( we both have been shooting for years)and had it ready. when she got out to open her hood he had his back to her and was facing his car. She said "are you ready" and he turned around and had his pants 1/4 the way down. She immediatly got back in her car and her window was down he grabed her door and said " you know you like it,lets get it on". She then drew her gun and shoved it in his face and said "get the hell away from me or I'll blow your face off!" He said "Oh my god" steped back and ran down the ally. The car turned out not to be his and the cops said other young women have reported the same case of a man asking for a jump and then exposing himslf.
I told my wife never help anyone even if it's an old lady when there is no one around and she is alone! If it was in the main parking lot with 100's of people aruond thats different but never follow someone to a suclued place! I also told her I was proud of her how she took care of herself and was able to stay aleart and have her gun on her and ready. Most women today would have panicked and probibly would have been raped. Some of my friends made fun of us because we carry guns and said we will never need them. After I told them what happend they stopped making fun!! I'm a firm beliver in freedom and I think any freedom loving american has a duty to own and use firearms because you never know what the future might bring!!!
Thinking back, she think the only thing she could have done better was to hold him at gun piont and call the cops on her cell phone so this person would be caught and could not hurt another!

Chris:

My Dad retired from Hewlett Packard in Loveland some twenty years ago, and the country around there is still familiar. My Mom once put a round between the feet of a "half mast" weirdo, from a S&W 28 my dad kept in the motorhome. Those types seem to drift through that country, and have for years. The only part I find strange is that you have friends who laugh at carrying. When Dad lived up there, EVERYBODY carried, and no one wondered why.

Hi Wal, I have a few friends I grew up with and have since changed to liberals and think guns should be banished! That aside we sitll get along but I have lost respect for them. I do have many friends that also carry though I guess it goes both ways!

Everybody around here carries, you could argue that this is TX, but I find the farther you go out in the boondocks the more the firepower per capita increases. I have a couuple of storys that I'd share about being mistaken as a burgler, but I will will save them for the Convention.

While we are on the subject I think I will start referring this page to some of my female friends. There is alot of good sound advice out here, and I will never be asked the question "What should I get my boyfriend for our anniversiary?"

Dave -

Just a suggestion, mind you, but if you send anything to mine,be sure to include "Great Big Honkin' Khukuri" and "Any S&W Whose Caliber Starts with FOUR" HEHEHeheh:D

A pair of N frames carrys HEAVY!, be they 29's ( 44 mag ), 25-2 ( 45 acp/ar ), or even the little fixed sight 58 ( 41 mag ). And no, there was no question of trying concealled carry.

Rusty, I'd have to go back to the walker to pack a pair, but the 624 and 625 Mountain Guns pack very nicely, and go without notice in an IWB, under the right shirt tail. Heavier than all the new plastic and "whateverium" guns, but lots more impressive when viewed from the other end

Good to see you back, Rusty.

Wal, I always overestimated the calibre when looking down the barrel.

What a difference a quarter of a century makes. Today, heavy firepower is an 11 shot CZ83 in 380, vs. an Airweight Bodyguard. The old 1100 riot gun likewise has been put away in favor of a 20 ga. A5 Browning.

I remember house sitting once on Geiger Grade ( the road from Reno to Virginia City ) with an AR-15 and a pair of 6 1/2" 25-2's on my belt. It was a dark and stormy night and about 8:30 a farmer pulled up and I opened the door for him - he just wanted me to know he was crossing the property to close the ditch. ( Another ditch, not the one where my friend and his brother found a body not a hundred yards from the house - a big winner at the clubs the night before that didn't make it home.)

And about the same distance a hundred years back another guy, part of a stage robbery, got shot dead within a 50 foot radius of the guy my friend found.

I am particularly fond of the 870 "Street Howitzer"....quite intimidateing from the business end

In 12 of course.

I'm planning on getting a shotgun in the near future. My best home defence is a Hungarian SA-85 7.62X39,30rd mag, built with american tolerances, basicaly an AK-47 with a thumb through stock !!:p FUN,FUN,FUN to shoot that thing will never jam, fill it up with mud and empty her rapid fire with no problem! We bought an old Chevy Luv for a 1 bill and drove it to some privet land we had access to and spent the day shooting it to scrap, probibly the most fun I ever had...besides opening the box to a new khuk!!!;)
