Alienated myself from BF in one day.

I've been on this forum since April , probably lurking around a year before that. In the past 2 weeks I've seemed to alienate myself from the BF knifemaker community by over posting regurgitated info that I have read or my own personal experience in a tone that leads others to believe I've been making knives a lot longer then I have . Second I was a dick to a new forum member who made 20 threads about every little thing after I tried to answer all his questions I got pissed off and posted some mean spirited things to him. I went back and edited the posts and apologized to said member and spoke to two mods on the subject. Now it seems as if no one wants to answer any of my newbie questions , which sucks for me because there is so much experience and info here . End Rant.

Take heart, take a break and try not to get burned out. You're not the only one to get that warning, and you won't be the last. You don't have to be a 40 year veteran of knifemaking to give someone good advice and there's nothing wrong if you give the same answer that the 40 year vet would have. You'd think that they'd be happy that you reduced their workload by a couple threads. However, there's no cause for being mean spirited toward other members in this section of the forums, but you can post all you want about them in the Whine & Cheese subforums.

The day I believe Wheeler is rude and condescending will be the day it is time for me to die.

You're too kind my friend!!! :o

It sure makes a guy feel good to know that somebody that is as great a person as Gus is, has your back! :) :)

Shhhh. Nick found this thread, Try to be quiet and say the right things...:(

Bwahahaha! That guy Nick....sheesh....Ha! Listen carefully to Nick, he has a lot of good things to say, and is a great guy to boot(Don't tell him i said that!), and has an addiction to smilies :D(Love ya!) There are a lot of people here that are always willing to help, and from what you saw in chat, there is a lot of good info in there also. The best way to get answers is to ask a question intelligently, and generally most people are happy to help! That being said, i would answer questions for you...But i have NO clue what i am doing....

From another loudmouthed Albertan, don't sweat it as long as your apologies are true and you strive to improve how you are perceived. Anytime you want send me a message, if you want to show something in hand I can probably meet up with you sometime to give my perspective. Plus I'm a massage therapist that does clinic and house calls if you need any help with pain/injury recovery. I never noticed another Edmonton maker, hope we can converse sometime!

I assure you duffy, others have made far more serious faux pas and made up for it by realizing their mistake and not doing it anymore. Hang in there, I think you'll do just fine around here.

Hi Duffy.
I live on the same side of the border as you do and maybe closer to you than you think since i'm in Kamloops. I get a terrific feeling making knives and man it's a good thing because at my age most everything about me is worn out. I just moved here a few months ago and my shop is just starting to come together. I hope to be doing liner lock folders again by Xmas.Tha's all I make but I enjoy sharing anything I know with others. Don't hesitate to contact me. My email is niro@telus.net And I have a flat rate per month phone I can call anyone in North America any time at no extra cost. As well if you are passing through say to Kamloops I offer our hospitality during any day. I cannot invite anyone to stay overnight with us .
People that know me here know I to can get pretty carried away at times but sure have given me room to turn around and come back.
Both my wife and I want to thank you for you Service time. Her father also served. We certainly feel that it is one of the highest comittments a person can make. Frank

Wow, Rick, that reminds me of my old tag line, "When you can no longer laugh at yourself, it is time for others to laugh at you."

My new tag is: I am awesome and if you don't think so, please STFU.

I would like to get that printed on a T-shirt.

I bought a T-shirt that says "I think I look AWESOME" I wore it to school one day and a couple guys started freaking out about it. I told them if they took life so seriously that they couldn't realize my shirt was a joke, that maybe they should relax a bit. So they could then be more awesome like me.

 :D

Seriously though.... some people take themselves way too seriously. I mean it. Seriously. :)

We bought a friend of mine a shirt with something funny printed on it. He wore it around the house and for band practices and such. He went shopping one day and forgot to take it off. Folks were staring at him... some laughed others looked on with disapproval. He didn't catch on until he got home and his girlfriends jaw dropped when she saw him.

The shirt read...

"I (BLANK) SHEEP"

You can probably fill in the blank, yourself.

Rick

HAHAHA, LMFAO :D

Last time Angi and I went to the coast, I bought a T-shirt at Bruce's Candy shop that is BRIGHT pink. It says TOUGH GUYS WEAR PINK in big block letters on the front. I wore it into town one day and this guy looked at me and said, "So you think you're tough huh?!?"

"Yep, so tough I advertise it on my shirt. And just to make sure you didn't miss it, I advertise it on a PINK shirt. Thank goodness for you noticing, I was worried I was going to have to fire my marketing manager. His wife and kids will thank you for noticing and making this a successful ad campaign, because otherwise I would have to fire him and they would starve. Thank you for not letting them starve. Bless you fine sir!!!"

I think he's still standing there with that dumb, blank look on his face. ;) :D

Well Duff, I don't have a dog in this fight, haven't been on the forums much lately or read your earlier post. But I would like to say welcome aboard and welcome home.

As a side note I'm ex military myself and the first year as a civy I went through 7 jobs. Seems I expected stuff to get done this second, no mater what, and no back talk, and didn't tolerate any BS. It's taken 14 years to chill out, and I wasn't in near as long as you or go through what you did, but I'm still a classic type A personality, I've just learned to bite my tongue and take a couple deep breaths. That and pounding on hot steel helps too, at least most times, my temper still sometimes gets the best of me!

In any event it takes a big man to make the post you just did. You'll find there's a lot of good people here and if you have any questions ask.

Will
