All-around fixed blade: Koster Bushmaster vs. BRKT Bravo-1 3V

Well, the knife you know the best is likely to be your favorite...........same with guns.

When you start looking for the bleeding edge (pun intended), the cost of entry goes up exponentially. Just like any other hobby, when you start going for the best, small improvements cost much more $$ than large improvements lower down the spectrum.

That being said, I really wish I had bought a few Buck knives back in the 90s......they were nice knives.

You guys certainly have a point. I have sometimes scoffed at pursuits just like mine, looking for the top of the pops when something half as expensive and hard to aquire would do 90% as well. I know a Buck 119 would be a good knife, as would a Swamp Rat, ESEE, or any other mid-range knife from one of the dozens of great manufacurers around (I was also looking at the CRK you have there for a while, but decided to go for something in 3V rather than S35vn).

In this case, for me at least, a large portion of the enjoyment comes from all of the research and comparisons involved. "The Thrill of the Chase" as some say. I just have to be picky due to limited funds and a general desire to stick with what I get. Like co556 said, I believe whatever I get, if I like it enough to keep it a while, I'll grow to know it best, and then it will become my perfect knife. It's hard to find that when you're cycling knives in and out on a bi-weekly basis.

Thanks for the perspective guys, though I'm still determined to find just the right knife for me. After all, my dad has been using a Congress and Buck 110 for all of his outdoor tasks for 60 years or so to great effect. Just like guns, it's more about the user than the tool being used.

Just found this post as I've been looking into both the Koster BushMaster and the GSO 4.1. Bushman, what did you end up going with? I'd be interested in what your final choice was and how it's performed.
