All around knife for $100

Okay, hunting for the cheapest BK2 out there, anyone who can share a link will be highly appreciated. =)

Careful on getting an infraction for deal spotting.

Do a search

Tons of places with them for around $60.

Good choice by the way. :D

After seeing this thread I think I will have to search for another candidate knife, what do you guys think?

Lol - are you kidding me?

Question 1 - do you plan to baton through your BK2 with another knife?
Question 2 - did you notice that against all odds, both knives survived the outlandish abuse?
Question 3 - did you notice that the blade deformations stopped on both knives where they thicken up?

Lol - if that thread makes you shy away from the BK2 because "it's not tough enough" or whatever, so be it but if that series of videos shows anything, it's that both the ESEE5 and the BK2 are built to survive preposterous situations. Weirdly, a guy could take either of those knives out after that and still manage to use them in the field (I'd rather have a nice new one but whatever).

The guy that made those videos, by the way, has been one of the most active and interesting members (from the perspective of step by step info on some very professional mods) of the Becker forum since he posted those videos. His own experiment appears to have increased his interest in Becker knives.

Exaxctly.

Rodelio - Remember it's what you think about a knife and what you like in a knife. Not what someone on the internet says/does. (me included) You may not like either of these (though I dought it) and go with a Swamprat Rat Man Du or a Bark River Bravo 1, or, or, or ... (LOL)

Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of places to TRY good knives, so internet fills the void. You can always sell it if you don't like it.

But, it's your knife and you need to be comfortable with it. You won't go wrong with either of these.

Pick one and enjoy.

I would really want one which will not dent a bit even if it hits a nail on the wood or baton it with a hammer as I will primarily use it to chop wood, can BK2 meet these requirements?

Anyone who have a say on Dumpster Mutt? Looks like it is thicker than BK2 although smaller and it is made with SR77, how does it compare to BK2 in strength? I will be mainly using it to cut branches and chop them but would like to be able to use it to other chores like cutting bones. Which one should be able to hold an edge better in cases where there will be a nail in some wood I am chopping?

I am actually from the Philippines and one test it that is commonly used here is to try piercing a coin, can the BK2 do this?

TIA

I have two Dumpster Mutts and I can tell you that SR77 steel is extremely strong. Probably stronger than what you will find elsewhere unless you pick up a true Busse. I have used mine pretty hard batoning, chopping and such and, as you see, it has very little wear. I would put these up against any knife of comparable size in terms of toughness. I know they are a little harder to get but totally worth it IMO. Good luck.

Never mind...
Sorry, have been busy googling and reading a lot of threads. =)

If I cannot find a suitable commercial knife that meets my needs then I will try the local blacksmiths here to make one for me out of 51200 (bearing ball) steel.

The BK2 is about as tough as it gets for an under $100 knife. You could easily spend 3 times what the BK2 sells for and not get a knife any tougher. As far as not denting at all when being batoned through nails, best of luck!
