Every forum I go to or any get together, he comes up in conversation as being amazing.

He's stupid. The only reason his show gets better ratings than survivor man is because he does stupid things for the camera. I know I watch in anticipation of mortal injury all the time.

I think it's an OK show, but I do like survivorman better and I feel like I can trust what Les has to say about survival.

am I alone? is it just friday and not close enough to beer:30 yet?

edit: and isn't all that SAS story and stuff a lot of fluff?
 
Its my favorite show on tv. Its just entertainment. Feel free not to watch it if you don't like it.

Around here, people take him for what he is. Entertainment, nothing more. It is good to see any outdoors shows on TV though. I wish Ray Mears and Les Stroud would make more shows. They show actual skills.

this is more of a rant. I watch the show constantly. I just find it annoying when people think he's better than Les Stroud. It's inconsequential in the grand scheme of life. It is entertaining. I just think he gets too much attention and badass credit for doing foolish things.

At least Bear can actually climb a coconut tree or rock face. I'd like to see Les try that. :thumbup:
 
Its alot better than most of the junk programming going on out there. Sure its Hollywood, but like Hollywood it is both entertaining, and interesting as well. The scenery in itself is beautiful too.

If I can't watch it tonite, it will be on the DVR for the next day.
 
the main reason I watch it is its interesting - not what he does but how he does it.he makes it down waterfalls by scaling wet vines but the camera crew manages to get down. And i doubt they have climbing gear, life raft, and all that stuff packed along with their camera. Its sort of like - Bill opens cans with a can opener but Bob does it with a chainsaw.
 
They haven't got the new season up here yet. I miss watching him eat crap off the ground. I don't think most people here what him for informations, but it's lots more entertaining than "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" I saw yesterday!

You know there's a problem when you read in the news that people are actually trying these things out like jumping off a cliff.
 
His real name is Edward and he gets off by naming himself "Bear"... What a moron. How pathetic must you be to nickname yourself "Bear".

Les Stroud's show is actually realistic, he's out there alone doing SURVIVAL related activities, bear has a ten man camera crew and director filming him for a couple hours a day doing stunts in front of the camera, that rabbit he "hit with a stick" was likely brought in, and those "wild horses" had shoes on (yeah there's more examples, but you get the point)...

Plain a simple, the guys an idiot... Just watch his show. What type of "survival" is that, anybody who didn't have climbing gear and a medic on-hand would be killed doing that crap.

I think the SAS stuff is legit. I think he was in the 23rd SAS for a while, which is kind of like the "reserves", but the selection/training is the same.
If somebody has more info, please post.

My guess is that you don't get to see the "behind the scenes" takes where he's bent over barfing up a lung or having stitches put in his leg. That might hurt his bullet-proof image. :D

He's a moron. I have better ways to spend my time.

he gets talked about on every forum because of people of you. no one on here would be talkin about him right now if it hadnt been for your post! if you think hes stupid then keep your mouth shut and watch something else on tv instead of coming on here and "ranting" about how stupid he is. You're just proving the point that it is a good show and worth talking about. it can be a little over the edge but then again its one of the most watched shows on cable television, so obviously hes sucessful, and obviously everyone watches the show cause its entertaining, otherwise it wouldnt be doing as well as it is(i work for Nielsen ratings)

Just would like to share some info that I read that his nickname wasn't made by him - i think it was something about how he got it when he was born and it stuck with him. Maybe the producers thought it would be n interesting twist.

"Bear is an Idiot" threads get repeated on every forum because of people like you. This thread might have died if it hadn't been for your post! If you think these threads are stupid then keep your mouth shut and post in another thread instead of coming on here and "ranting" about how stupid these threads are. You just have proven that "Bear is an Idiot" threads are good threads and worth talking about. They can be a little over the edge but then again they are some of the most oft-repeated threads on forums, so obviously they are popular, and obviously everyone likes these threads because they're entertaining, otherwise there wouldn't be so many of them.

Bring on more "Bear is an Idiot" threads. Now, that's entertainment! :thumbup:
