All Philll's fault...

look forward to seeing this progress like phil's , looks like a good start so far-- can we get a shot of the forge? :D

That sure still looks constructive to me. Far more than I've accomplished today. I had a productive day yesterday.
I too am anxious to see how this works out.

Parang Fairy.... Hmm, a really really strange mental image for that one...
Looking forward to seeing another awesome thread. Lots of pictures of the stages please.

Is that thar a punching bag in the back ground? When things go bad a few fisticuffs on the bag and all is well.

That appears to be one heck of an anvil you have there - how much does that thing weigh?

340something. Haven't weighed it, but I've carried it lol. Face is only 3/8" or so thick-pretty sure it's old.
Can you imagine getting close enough to that at a welding heat to forge weld it?!?!
Bawanna-yes it is. Only place I can hang it where it's not in anybody's way.

Im assuming thats your quench barrel. I think i remember you saying you use peanut oil. Do you differentially temper most of your blades (vs. diff harden)?

The quench tub is the 7.62x54 can behind the forge-that and I have a 40" long rectangular vertical tank for long stuff and swords. I do both differential tempering and hardening-the differential temperin is mostly for swords. Knives are almost all DH'd. I use canola oil-cheap, nontoxic and a fast, hard quench.

Ohh man why did I look here why why why............... I love me some parangs, one of my favorite blades of all besides khuks of course.

I am pretty sure JW will sling you some parangs on the cheap, it only took him an hour to make that one :D--and same here I just love the parang and all its iterations.

I thought it looked a little cluttered and then it dawned on me, it look just like Bookie's shop. Must be a metal magic thing or something.
