Hello all,

I was thinking(I know, sometimes that can be dangerous) Instead of only posting pics of knives that we own, like the forum description says. We should post any and all photos that we can find. This way if someone is looking for a pic of a specific knife, they can use the "search" feature in the Gallery and find pics of exactly what they need. We could probably turn the "gallery" into the largest, most complete database for knife pics on the net!! And with the search feature, come on!! that alone could be a whole new feature for mike to advertise. What do you think?? Lets start posting like crazy.

If you post pics that you don't own, then someone else is stuck paying for the bandwidth every time a thread is opened. I'd say that with rare exception, it's best to only post your own pics.

Actually, post away - now that we have a T1 line, bandwidth isn't a problem for the near future.

But is it alright to lift pics off someone's website? I mean I see it done a lot, where people take pics off knifeart, or other places, and don't properly acknowledge where they got the pic from.

I'd say that if we're going to start posting every pic we find, we'd better (1) acknowledge the source and (2) check to make sure the same pic doesn't get posted 10 times.

I'll post a link (URL command) to a picture on somebody else's page, but not the image itself (IMG command), lest the other site's bandwidth get used every time somebody opens the thread.

Mitch brings up a good point - please don't post a picture from someone else's website in a thread, especially when it's still stored on that person's website - you are essentially stealing their bandwidth and it can drive their hosting bill up real quick. Make sure you have someone's permission before you do something like this.... or if you want to post it, be courteous and save it to your own server / host.

Hey Spark, any chance BFC might be interested in hosting photos, similar to Photopoint? That would be a way to earn a little extra $$$. Have something like 'preferred membership' (okay, that's kind of stupid, I'm sure someone can come up with a better name than that), where the member pays a reasonable yearly dues (maybe work a deal with AKTI and have combined dues, so you pay a bit more, and get membership in both?), and gets some extra perks, like some space for photos and a small homepage, and maybe an @bladeforums.com email address, etc. I'd go for that.

Not going to happen - when people don't even want to pay for selling items on BladeForums.com, much less auctioning items, hosting pictures isn't going to work either.
