I am looking for a fixed blade camp knife that can do many different things. I am sure this exact question has been asked mnay different times, but bare with me. I am look for a knife that can:
-Cut most of anything while camping
-Baton
-Food prep
-Small chopping

It needs to be a fixed blade, tool steel, full tang, and preferable a convex edge for ease of sharpening.

I was looking at the fehrman last chance or maybe the first strike. I know busse makes some good knives but hard to find. Any ideas? The knife will accompany a bow saw, so its not the main cutting tool. - the cost can be around the 150-300 mark.

check out NWA knives in the maker section Sierra Scout model is waht I chose as my camp knife.

maybe a Siegle, Gossman or Patton

Is stainless isn't that big of a problem go with Fallkniven, really. they make outstanding fixed blades (convexed too)
the F1 (4" blade approx) is prefect for a carry knife for me when I camp. but there is also the S1 and the A1 which have 5 and 6 inch baldes depending on how big of a knife you need.

The knives are really tough and hod an edge like no bodies business.

I'd look at the Beckers just because they do everything you mention plus you could possibly get a couple Beckers for the price of a single knife elsewhere (in some cases anyway).

You may want to look at the Becker BK-2 (Campanion) or the BK-7 based on your criteria. They aren't convexed but the edge work on the Beckers is one of the strong points. They grind the edges very thin and shaving sharp out of the box.

The Campanion is VERY THICK so keep that in mind if you need a bushcraft prybar too.

Here are some pictures of my BK-2, BK-9 and my BK-11 Becker Necker. The BK-7 would fit between the BK-2 and BK-9:

Tried many knives of this class and settled on the Scrapyard Dogfather. They can still be had on the secondary market. Comes V ground but it's easy to convex, that's what I did to mine.

Why I like it? Ergonomic handle that reduces shock impact during chopping compared to normal handles with the tang visible and handle slabs attached to the side, the toughest steel I've ever used in a knife, excellent warranty, very good chopping performance because of the forward weight distribution compared to full tang knives, and the steel being so tough you can take it to a very thin edge so it will outchop softer, less tough steels.

There are many great knives out there in this size range, but this one worked best for me out of what I tried. If you want something that can do serious chopping try to get a blade between 9 and 12 inches long, whatever you're comfortable carrying / using.

Short of getting a Busse I'd say....

Scrapyard Dogfather
Cold Steel Trailmaster
Fallkniven A2
Fallkniven Thor/Odin
Becker Bk9
Ontario SP10 Marine Raider

BRKT Bravo 2 sounds perfect for you!
full tang
A2 tool steel
full convex grind

+1 or Bravo 1 which is smaller..another small tough blade is the Scrap Yard S5- not full tang but a great, versitile blade...or a Swamp Rat Ratmandu...

The Bark River knives are certainly something to look into. I just received my first one, the Fox River. It is going to be my #1 camping/ hiking fixed blade.

The full convex zero grind made from A2 tool steel is perfect for hard use as well as delicate work since the edge is very thin and the spine is very thick. Not the toughest or the slimmest knives in the world, but a great compromise.

The Spyderco Woodlander currently is my favorite do-all camping/hiking/hunting knife, hands down. It's basically a Bark River's killer convex edge meets Busse's legendary toughness meets Spyderco's mean slicing capabilities. It literally kicked my Busse Skinny ASH-1 out of my backpack...

Isn't the Woodlander flat ground with a flat secondary bevel?

The blades are flat ground European N690Co steel which carries a reputation for cutting performance and edge retention.

Hi pinkfloyd101 -

How about Stomper from JK Handmade Knives ?

Here are his standard offerings -

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=703136

Stomper will make almost anything you can think of and his knifes are popular with many in the W&SS forum.

I have a Kephart and it is first rate all the way. All of his knives are 01 tool steel as far as I am aware.

Go to his forum and have a chat - perhaps you can design your own knife for yourself.

best regards -

also check out koyotes stuff in the knifemakers area...very cool knives- would love one of his blades
