All purpose camp knife

I am looking for a fixed blade camp knife that can do many different things. I am sure this exact question has been asked mnay different times, but bare with me. I am look for a knife that can:
-Cut most of anything while camping
-Baton
-Food prep
-Small chopping

It needs to be a fixed blade, tool steel, full tang, and preferable a convex edge for ease of sharpening.

I was looking at the fehrman last chance or maybe the first strike. I know busse makes some good knives but hard to find. Any ideas? The knife will accompany a bow saw, so its not the main cutting tool. - the cost can be around the 150-300 mark.

Carbon steels are great don't get me wrong. IMO stainless is such a better choice in the woods , you dont have to worry about all the care you do with carbon.
That said the Fallkniven S1 fits your bill perfectly aside from steel choice.

The S1 is VG10 , convex edge , thick enough for most anything your going to come up against and yet a ridiculously keen edge , I am absolutly amazed at what my S1 can do with what I have put it up against thus far.
It has been called possibly the best hunting/camping knife ever made and for good reason , I think.

Not that there are not a lot of excellent choices out there , most of the aforementioned knives will do the trick and then some , a Becker for instance is much cheaper than the S1 leaving you precious dollars to use for extra equipment.

There are so many choices out there , take your time and choose something you will truly be pleased with.

Before you buy anything, talk to Jeremy Horton in the makers forum section "Horton Knives". It can't hurt and you might get an incredible knife out of the deal

THANKS for the advice so far... I'm going to look into the knives mentioned. I still don't know if I'll need/want a smaller fixed blade (4-5.5 in) or a bigger blade(7-10 in). I guess I could get two knives, but i'd prefer to have one do it all knife....

I personally went the smaller route with the same question... I don't do a ton of real hardcore bushcrafting, a little batoning, but mostly just wanted a blade for everything (cleaning fish, squirrels, deer - cutting bait, carving stuff if needed, and anything else that might come up) - ended up on a bark river gunny. If I find a I need a larger blade I'll get one, but I think the size is perfect for an all arounder that isn't going to be used as a chopper or anything of the sort...
