All purpose camping, hiking, sailing and canoeing knife?

Could someone educate me on why a corkscrew feature on a SAK would be useful for camping and other outdoor activities?

I've also heard that the corkscrew is perfect for getting the all-important first vienna sausage out of the can.

The Onterio TAK-1 in D-2? Almost stainless and you can get it serrated. It's a great knife that's not to big but, can be used to chop down maybe a small redwood...............lol :D

Do you have a team of sherpas to carry your kit? I've done several long-distance hikes & bikes, always carrying everything I'll need. I have only ever carried an SAK. I've never felt the want of anything else.

110% right, maximus, except the part about feeling the want. My list of knife wants far exceeds my needs. I guess that's what disposable income is for. :D I often carry far too much hardware on day-hikes, but when the trips get longer, it's usually a SAK, maybe a multi-tool, depending on what the trip is about.

I have the Howling Rat, which I like very much, and the Grohmann #1 and #4, which I also like very much. Although the #4 is my favorite, on day trips or casual outings I would carry the #1.

Either the Rat or the Grohmann would work as an all around outdoors knife, and the decision to carry would be a personal choice.

Okay, I'm prejudiced, but have you considered a Bark River, such as the Northstar?
