hey guys, ive been watching a lot of walking dead recently and so now i have a hankering for an "apocalypse knife". ive been looking at the obvious offerings from busse or zombie tools but i was wondering if you guys had any other ideas about what would work well, looking for an 8-12 inch blade solid enough for most tasks including fighting and rough bushcraft. Id appreciate any recommendations. I dont really have a budget but id be looking anywhere from 50 to 600 dollars (pretty big range i know).

thanks in advance!

Cold Steel came out with a version of their D2 Leatherneck Bowie with a 10 1/2" blade. It runs about $150.
You might also want to check out the Himalayan Imports subforum.

In my opinion, steel choice should be high on your list of priorities for a knife in this role, (no breaky-breaky).

5160 is a tough and relatively inexpensive steel and it happens to be my favorite.

Bill Siegle makes extremely tough, large knives in 1/4” differently heat-treated 5160, (and he sells his new knives on this forum btw). His knives are also known to generally have thin grinds and comfortable handles. I’ve done lots of work with mine and it’s been great. (I use it more for trail clearing than zombies however to be clear). Highly recommended.

So many relatively inexpensive knives like Becker BK-9, ESEE Junglas or Junglas II, a number of Cold Steel options, or as scdub recommended above. Some beautiful knives listed on the exchange by a number of great makers frequently and within your range.
The location you are or will be- is it an area you would prefer a certain steel or handle material? Just food for thought.

I’d look at a Cold Steel drop forged Survivalist knife. 52100 steel which is VERY tough, one solid piece of steel so nothing to break, mine came razor sharp, good sheath, good ergos and all for about $80 if you shop
around. It will literally do anything you need in a big knife

A bit shorter at 7", but I doubt you'd feel the CPK SDFK (Super Duty Field Knife) was lacking.

Could also check out the CS Trail Master in San Mai or 3V.
