All Purpose knife recs

A full on quality sword!

+ a hatchet for wood processing, a SAK Huntsman and a Leatherman to tackle little odds and ends along the way, and a Hobo knife so you always have proper eating utensils...

C Corey.L - Matt just posted a new large knife (sister to the black one in my pictures above) here: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/bowie-style-chopper.1925082/

Ask him to make another one (or a fuller like mine above?) and send it to one of our sheath makers (David?) .... Matt's knives are great.

Seriously, for your budget, instead of getting lists of brandnames here, just pick a custom maker and tell him what you need - that way you get exactly what you like.

The obvious answer is always SMATCHET.

I will also second the Varusteleka Skrama 240mm. I like that it is lighter and handier for its size than any other large knife I have carried. Second place in this regard goes to my Roselli leuku, but you wouldn't be doing much fighting with it. Unless you're this guy . . .

You could always go cheap and bomb proof with a Cold Steel machete, too.

Or go expensive and bombproof with a Cold Steel Kukri in full 3v. Nothing quite decapitates a zombie with style like a super steel kukri. This should gobble up the OP’s budget nicely. You can find them for about $400

I would go for the Cold Steel Kukri. I have had one for several years and although I have never run into a zombie, I think it would dispatch one as well as any other knife. I sprayed some of that rubber sealant on the handle for a better grip and added a lanyard.

looks great, also wondering what your one was with the composite handle and back serrations?

yeah i think cs so far has been the most highly recommended a lot of their stuff looks great

At that price you should go full custom and get a low weight blade in Z-Tuff. It's tough enough to handle a thin blade geometry so you can make it light enough to swing a lot.

ive always wondered where to get a sword, i saw this really nice one from zombie tools https://zombietools.net/collections/blades/products/the-redeux
Aside from finding a trusted reputable blacksmith to make you a custom one, a few production companies that come to mind making functional swords that are capable of using, (not just the purely decorative display mimics);
Cold Steel - uses 1060 on a lot of their larger blades
Condor - uses 1075 almost exclusively on most of their products
CAS - 1566 I believe? Somewhere in between 1060 & 1075, I believe it to be the aisi 1066 equivalent?
Legacy Arms - uses 5160 spring steel I believe
Albion - typically a bit pricier then the others, "re-creations not replicas" is their claim, and also claims to use a proprietary functional steel on their site, but also lists 1075 in some descriptions.

There are more I'm sure, but those 5 off the top make swords from tough carbon steels that can actually be used as such.
