here's something you don't find every day.
i got these from an antique dealer in austria many years ago.
these were originally black forest trophies from the 1890s, but their mounts got broken, so the dealer tossed them in a shed and forgot about them. i asked if she had any loose trophy antlers for sale and her husband remembered these.
have you ever noticed the beautiful fine grain on old sheffield stag exhibition knives? ever wonder why sambar stag never looks like that? that's because sheffielders used red stag on their finest knives.
nowadays, most red stag antlers come from eastern europe, where they grow to immense proportions, and the texture on the antler is accordingly immense.
antlers from western europe are different. they have a fine, pebbly texture that is unlike any other antler. since red deer are relatively scarce in western europe these days, their antlers are tough to come by.
these antlers have well over 100 years of patina on them and they look amazing. the texture is still bold and well-defined despite their age.
ALL SOLD
thanks, everybody.
