All Steel Axes/Tomahawks-Uses?

In general, I don't like all-steel axes. The balance is wrong. The vibrations are brutal on old joints. And wood-handled axes are just a lot nicer to use.

However, I have one 4140 all-steel crash axe. When I had to chop the sealed top off a 55-gallon drum, the crash axe worked really, really well. Super fast and efficient. Never found another use for it.

I good mod would be to put a rubber liner between the steel handle and the Micarta scales.

I am making all steel hawks myself. So I know a bit.

They are just "tactical gadgets".
Compared to forged, wood handle axes - they are inferior in most fields. Weight distribution is a joke, grinds are shallow and unsophisticated. Cutting face size, shape and orientation has more to do with "tactical style" than with function.

Yeah, tactical tomahawks has "tools" but when you look at REAL breaching, rescue tools, they are many times bigger, heavier and with working surfaces located in proper location - look at Halligan Tool, or firemans axe

HOWEVER. In contrast to wood-handled axes, all metal tomahawk can by abused and steel retain its usability. Even their thick and simplistic grinds are a benefit - as they can be regrinded and still work similar to new one.

And they are cool :D
