I've always considered myself an accumulator and user of knives, rather than a collector. I'll buy knives that appeal to me, without trying to 'complete a set'. I have, over the years, accumulated a fair number of Great Eastern Cutlery knives that are now highly sought after, since GEC is unlikely to make them again any time soon. I bought them new, as they were released, never paying an ebay markup, and have used all of them. Quite a number are clad in ebony, partly because I liked the way it looks and partly because ebony was usually the least expensive option at the time.

After obtaining a TC Barlow in Glitter Gold Acrylic, I realized that it's my favorite handle material. After carrying it for a few months, my old ebony knives look so dull in comparison. I looked around on the internet, and found that I could purchase this material in blocks or sheets. I decided to take them to a local knife modder and have the ebony replaced. Why not? Knives are tools, meant to be used, and I enjoy using them more when they are sparkly.

Now I'm thinking of putting some glitter gold on a few of my vintage Jacks. Which one should I start with?

I was looking forward your traditional april fool day thread and was disappointed to don't see it this morning. Glitter gold instead of ebony? Good 1st april joke!

Nice !

You brought tears to my eyes. Reminded me of my Mother. Her taste for all things sparkly and garrish had all of us - Dad, and then me and 4 sibs drinking before we were 12. We lived in the splendor of visual cacophony, but we were always warm and clean and sparkly (if a bit tipsy). :(

Good one Rachel

:D

My friend has a little girl is called Ripley, and a few years ago I took her, and her two brothers, to a local castle called Ripley Castle. In the gift shop, I thought she might like something with her name on, but she wanted a sparkly ball. She told me, conspiratorially, "I like SHINY things!" :D

I was just looking at my photos from the day, and it's actually 7 years ago!
