All this sebenza hype....

It took me about 6 months to finally decide that I would have to buy a sebenza to see if it really is worth the praise it receives here.

To be honest I had my doubts, but I was willing to pay the money to see for myself. Without having the opportunity to handle one before buying I had to ask a lot of questions from the folk here (thank you) and I looked at many many photos.

I did not exactly like the look of the Sebenza in the photos but every time I decided that I was not going to spend the money on a knife I did not really like the look of, I would read a new post praising the Sebenza.

So I had to find out for myself, I ordered a small ebony classic.

As soon as I picked it up I suddenly understood what everyone was talking about, the balance, the strength, the proportions, the workmanship, the quality....

This is the best pocket knife I have ever owned, and it really is beautiful in the hand.

It is worth the money, and I think the only other pocket knife I will buy from here is another CRK.

So for everyone here, thank you for all your previous posts and discussions and information that swayed me to buy this knife.

Cheers.

After spending the last 10 years on the forums, I never get tired of reading stories of people transfering over to the Sebenza full time. Glad to hear you're enjoying the new one. Great choice of the ebony small classic for a first. Use her often... Remember the word Sebenza means "work"!

Here's a pic of what your new Sebenza looks like...

Congrats on your new Seb! Welcome to the Sebenza owner club. I'm on my 4th Seb now and looking for #5.

I just love the Classic's ... this post is making me wanting to buy another!

I don't have a 'classic' - and it makes me curious every time! sigh! eventually life will lead me to one. congrats to you & enjoy!!

I've got a large classic with ivory inlay. I've been thinking about selling it and buying that same knife (small classic with ebony inlay). I know if I get the small I will miss the large... Just need to get the small and keep the large!!

congrats on the new purchase.

unless you own one, you won't understand. people at work ask me how much a knife like these cost and they look at me like i am a freak. they are even holding onto the knife. that is how you can tell they really do not get it. they are happy buying a lot of $30-40 knives and never really feeling a piece of art in the hand.

i started out with $30 knives, then $100, then $200, and now i am at the cr level. i doubt i will ever buy a knife in the $1k range, but i am sure i will buy a crk that is close to that range.

I really did have massive doubts about the knife before I took the plunge. I thought the blade would be too think, I thought the handle was going to be too thick as well, and I thought that it was a lot bigger and ugly.

It was only the continued praise from the knife nuts here that changed my mind. I thought if these guys rate it so highly there must be something I am missing from the photos alone.

Now that I have it in my hands I can say that it really is the perfect knife for me and honestly exceeds any expectation of what I was hoping from this knife. The more I handle it the more I appreciate and understand the thought and workmanship that has gone into it's manufacture. It is all things that I was looking for. I think I will savour the thought of which one to buy next, now I have a user I will need a safe queen!

Cheers.

If you really want to see all involved in the making of the Sebenza, check out their DVD "The Exquisite Blade". It's really quite something to see. Gives a whole new perspective and appreciation, even from people here who already have used Chris Reeve products for years.

I'll agree with that. The video is something else. It really slams home the thought that you are buying the best.

Where can I get one of those videos of my own? Do they sell those?

By the way its a no brainer for anyone that knows folders why Chris makes the folding knife used as the standard against what all other production and many custom folders are judged against. I mean besides being the one that started it all for frame locks he covers all the bases so thoroughly and so well that its worth repeating. His knives are the best by the things that are visible to all like the very precise bevels of his long and short cut outs on the lock along with the rest of his fit and finish eliminating any sharp edges, to his surface grinding of all his titanium before he even machines it, to his strategic placement of the pocket clip to also add some lock stability to keep it from hyper extending it, to the things not so easily seen or noticed on the insides where the pivot rides on a precise bushing, to his heat treatment of the lock, and the % amount of actual metal to metal contact behind the blade when the knife is opened for use which again is as all folders should be, to the lock relief double cut outs in an arc with if you notice more thickness left after its been trimmed than just about any other competitive knife out there. But lets not forget his warranty either.

I've had three Sebbies now and all three have been so flawless and precise throughout that it goes without even saying to those of us that work on them that they deserve to be recognized as the best engineereed and well thought out folder around. I just wish he offered a Wharncliff blade option. Then it'd be perfect for me throughout. I guess one of these days I'm going to have to make my own or contract with someone else to do one for me in a steel I don't use like Damascus or something.

STR, didn't I send you the DVD at one time?

Anyway yes they sell them.

Yes and I appreciate it. Thats how I know I want one.

Thanks Dave. Hey I picked up a BG42 Large Sebbie the other day that I'm currently carrying. Been wanting another in that steel for some time. Keep your eye out for an original ATS34 one for me if you will.

Thanks

will do.

I have a small in ats34, they're sweet. (and it's not for sale :D )

My first Sebenza arrived today as well, large Micarta Classic. I won't be redundant and make a thread repeating all the well-earned praise; I'll just say this: I get it. My next knife will be an ebony Mnandi.

STR, I agree with everything you said. CRK really is amazing, in all that they do. Having some machining background I can more appreciate the engineering that goes into the CRK folders.

You can get the DVD directly through CRK. I think New Graham and Only Fine Knives also carries them.

I have handled them and they are great, but never been able to afford one, I wish they could use the axis lock, I just love it so much.

Got two new Sebbies in the last 3 months and they are awesome knives. When my wife comes home from work and had a bad day, I take the sebbie out of my pocket and tell her to hold it awhile, and it will make you feel better. She does and looks at me like I'm crazy then starts to laugh. See it work for her as it does for me. Best of luck with your new Sebenza. Good choice.
