People will probably get angry at me again for saying this
(happened last time when a thread like this was posted) but in my opinion:
No, we do not need an all-ti Mnandi
No, we do not need a Mnandi with micarta, G10, carbon fiber or any other plastic inlay.
It would not be a Mnandi anymore... The Mnandi is all about the premium wood, bone or mammoth inlays.
That would be murder. A nice, beautiful, defenseless Mnandi torn to pieces...
Kind regards,
Jos
I'm definitely not mad at you for stating your opinion, it's what forum interaction is all about. So thank you for your comment. However, my original idea has nothing to do with tearing apart, or "murdering" any Mnandis, it's merely just me of saying, hey it'd be cool if CRK made a plain version Mnandi.
As for your comment regarding what a mnandi is "all about", i'm curious if you could elaborate on where your opinion begins and ends. I will happily admit, i am relatively new to CRK. I've been carrying a knife one way or another for a long time, but i only really got into collecting, admiring and obsessing within the past couple years.
with that said, I'm definitely open to a free education, so what i know is that aside from the occasional mammoth bark or bone, yes, mnandi's are almost always wood. Is that part of the intended philosophy and concept of the knife? Do the natural elements of wood, mammoth or bone make up the entire character of what constitutes "The Mnandi"?
I'm not trying to be condescending or anything, i am seriously asking the question. because i've read the information on CRK's website, many times... and of course they clearly write they use wood inlays... but based on your comment I'd really just like to know if Chris Reeve said to himself one day...
"I'm going to make a small gentleman's folder and base the design around the use of different wood inlays"
or
"I'm going to design a knife that has the toughness and durability of a utility, but the beauty, elegance, design and cutting precision of a gentleman's knife"
I guess the bottom line here is that, as a creative thinker, I would certainly be willing to put aside certain ideas out of respect for the original designer, if those ideas breach the original concept, but what is the authentic and original concept? anyone know the history? maybe we need a new thread here,
"The Mnandi: Storytellers"
