I've purchased a lot of knives off the bay over the years and some times have been displeased with the packaging but this is the first I ever received that was not packaged at all. I'm so upset I did not even bother to open it. I think this is going to be my first ever eBay return. Besides being crumpled, the box is all wrapped in clear tape and is now worthless.

No excuse for that.
I'm surprised you did not get an empty box with one or both ends torn off.
 
Shipping is rough... I've received knives that came out of the box inside a box because the sender didn't bother to wrap anything. The worst is display boxes with cloth liners, everyone assumes they will hold the knife in place.
 
I've had that happen a lot so I specifically say before paying to "do not use the original box for a shipping container". Even then I had one guy do it anyway. It was a limited box too. He did put paper around it and did not tape to the box and the LE box was tough enough to make it.

lots of folks care about what there selling and some don't.
 
That's a shame. You would think someone would know better even if they weren't a knife guy.
 
Obviously the seller is not a knife collector. My wife worked for the post office and retired after 40 years. She would get mad as heck if I ever tried to ship something like that. She said that just the general handling of mail is hard on packages. Always cushion the knife and ship it in a flat rate USPS Priority box.
 
that is the stupidest thing I have ever seen--I have shipped over 15,000 packages and never had a problem---I use the white baseball card storage boxes-cost bout 50 cents each but well worth the money for my people to get their product 110%...
 
Yes, but someone that far off it probably won't do much good. He really needs a brain transplant. DM
 
I agree dm, but let others know bout his low down practices--he hurts the good sellers ya know,bay already has some bad.....

Kidding, of course! That might be the worst one yet! Never seen anything like it. I remember seeing photos here where someone received one where the seller wedged the point of a LE 110 inside the wood display box so it wouldn't move. The worst one I received was a knife in it's sheath only, in it's LE box without any other filling, inside a mailing bag. The box was destroyed, as you might expect. Some folks are out of their minds..
 
very bad for sure as a collector. i dont typically keep boxes, but i understand your pain. what knife is it, did it survive okay?

edit part...didnt read close enough..saw you said didnt even open it. disregard my dumb question.
 
A problem with eBay is they send the item without the packing to save packing to postal cost, not great when the item is a present or an collectors item, You need to ask before you buy is it boxed, or carded for some items, or is it just loose.
 
not all sellers on ebay do that--that is why negative feedbacks can help weed out the bad sellers and eventually they will go away-the bay is a great buyers market...

Agreed, Feedback is life and death on Ebay.

Boy, I forgot about that one, it was mine also. Seller was a pawn shop as I recall. I'd repost it if I could find it. All my old photos I salvaged from Photobucket are on the computer in the basement.

I never did open the box, still pissed. It contains a 70's vintage 103 Skinner without the sheath, blade looked unsharpened. The box was mismatched and was for a 102 Woodsman. I happened to have the correct sheath laying around and had a nice 102 that could have gone into the box. None of it was anything special, sometimes I buy stuff I don't really need... :) Seller had a 700+ 100% rating so I expected better.
