Well, I guess I hurt the seller's feelings....here is what I said and his response..
He is going to report me to eBay for abusive language....????!!!! I did not use one bad word.... :D

from me...
Really???? You put the shipping label directly on the knife box without wrapping it!!! You clearly don't know anything about knives, the buff yellow BUCK boxes have value. My bid valued the box as well as the knife as I have the correct knife for that box... which is now slightly crumpled and worthless. The knife itself without a sheath was nice but not that special. I have purchased hundreds of knives on ebay, some are not always packed the best, but at least they were packed. This was definately a first for me. I have not even bothered to open it, I am going to give it a day or so to decide if I will return it.. /Roger

seller's response
Send it back I don't need to be ridiculed I'm also contacting eBay and notifying them of your abusive language .

Four question marks doesn't seem abusive to me. It was probably the triple exclamation points. Very abusive. NOT!

Number one that form of "packaging" is not acceptable. Secondly there is nothing you said that should have been taken as abusive or even being ridiculed.
You actually were a bit nicer than I would have been. I have had a few problems with packaging and most of the time I get the excuse that they did not charge me
enough shipping to justify packaging it any better. The seller sets shipping prices and should set them at what price they need in order to package the item correctly.
When I purchase a knife with the original box I figure that into the value / price I am willing to pay and expect to get it as it was shown in their sale listing.
I try to send the seller a message stating to please package well in a way that protects the box and sometimes offer to pay more if needed if they aren't charging much. I have never had anyone
ask for more and only once after I sent out that message did they still package poorly and when I notified the seller he went off on me. I forget sometimes to
send that message to the seller and every now and than get a knife in a shipping bag or large shipping envelope. When that happens I give neutral feedback and state
that the packaging was poor. Some sellers just don't get it. Sorry that happened Roger.

wow you are so mean!!!! ha just kidding---too bad he does not take your message as a learning experience and think about doing better---sounds like he is a real JA....open a return through ebay and make him pay shipping back--then leave him a negative....like I said his actions hurt the great sellers on ebay and I hope people don't think that's the way ebay is----because it is not....that is just crazy--I do not cut any corners when I ship-you have got my packages before and shipping is the most important part of the ebay experience....
I wish all sellers would make it the best and maybe ebay would have a better reputation --think so???? it takes as much effort to do it wrong as it does to do it right----don't make sense to me to do it wrong......cant fix stupid!!!!!
yep so sorry that a JA has to be on ebay and do that to a great buyer like you...
if ever any doubts about shipping --when you make your paypal payment--attach a message there asking to carefully pack it and then for sure the seller will see message...

I had a friend that used to be a manager at a pawn shop (someone mentioned the seller was a pawn shop). For some items, they would use ebay final sales prices as a reference to things they weren't familiar with. On top of that, some employees could really care less about what they were selling.

Personally, I take extra care to package both the items and their original boxes on things I sell on eBay (never sold a knife though). I've also paid attention to buyers requests as to packaging and padding for the original box (even though I do that anyway).

If the owner of the shop understood the value of what they were selling, it would hurt their bottom line if an employee destroyed it (original box) when preparing shipment... especially if that item were returned. It might be worth it to explain to the owner why it was returned as well as shipping proof of box value, i.e. e-bay final sales of empty box. IMO, if the box has value and was a significant reason for your bid, I would return it too

Both the packaging and his reply are pathetic. I am also unaware of anywhere on ebay for sellers to "report abusive language". File a dispute and request a FULL REFUND, you also should not be required to pay return shipping for an item that was damaged due to improper packaging by the seller.

A certain percentage of sellers will be clueless dolts. Luckily, most are OK. This one was a classic.

Here is my Bay purchase from last week that turned out a lot better than Desotos. Mine was not a packaging issue, it was packaged so well I have no idea how this gouge was left on the guard. It was listed as pristine and otherwise was pristine. I wrote the seller and explained the situation, he offered me to return it or a $20 partial refund. I opted for the $20 refund because I was excited to have a stone mountain to rehandle....I waited for a few days and saw no refund, I didn't want to bother the seller since he was very nice and cooperative. Just yesterday my wife asked if I bought paperwork or a sticker from Waco TX since an envelope hand written to me had arrived in the mail. I didn't have a clue what she was talking about so told her to open it. Inside was crisp $20 bill. I left positive feedback immediately after. so this small issue was resolved very well, unlike some of the nightmares in my past transactions.....Win some and lose some, at the end of the day health and family are all that matter....oh, and Buck knives:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:P1012982.JPG P1012988.JPG

Thank you to everyone who contributed. Mike, we expect to see pictures of that knife after the rehandle. Time to close this thread and move on.
