Ok, of late a great many newbie’s are posting and
desperately seeking information on all kinds of Buck Knives.
Their hunger can not be quenched with jest tidbits of data.. nay
they seek a denouement to the quest for more knowledge
Many desperately ask did they ever make a...
or why that was or why not this...
or does ANY one know the rime or reason for ....
This line of inquiry goes from simple- where is the pin
to who made the tiny part that is on a ......
Many hear of obscure LE's, one off Customs or
that elusive mystical knife called a prototype
and have such a ardent desire for information that they end up here..
Many want to know if there is one they are missing to complete a collection.
I, my self have gone through this many many times, sick in mind and heart with Buck Knife fever and a torrid desire for more Buck Knife knowledge.

One year I went to the best source I could think of to ask for things and asked for The book of information about Buck Knives for my self and here is what I got back:

Dearest Dave,
I have been watching you and also over heard your wife saying that you have been a good man this last year. I am much afraid that I can only provide you with a Buck Knife once a year. I have left most of the other things on your list and this letter is concerning the only one I can not find. …

Re: Concerning the gospel and final word to collecting those Buck Knives you so dearly love and want to put in order…

TRULY it seems that there is NOT a consummate "Book of Buck" containing 'All the Data' on marking, dating, resurrecting what was made when and why on the nice things that have come from those incorrigible boys and girls at Buck.
{Note I checked with Father Time and he said there was nothing in the Time Past Vault and the New Year Baby only giggles over what is coming and wont say a word}….
It seems that that knowledge resides in bit and pieces in the minds and hearts of the many soles that receive or give a Buck.. so Davie my friend,
I hope you continue to be a good fellow and continue to try to be kind to others and not piss any one off esp your wife as she and all other wives have direct lines to my list making elves…
Most fondly yours
Santa C.
PS: I missed them but you should check with Uncle Sam and Davy Jones. Other wise your best bet since Vern has gone home is to gather every bit of information you come across your self and share or exchange with your friends so you all can learn..
PSS: Ugh … would you let me know if you find out anything? It seems to come up often on my request list and... well...
I would like the information also!!!
PSSS:If it is real good info I will get you and extra buck... mabe...ok?
S.Clause

SO there you buck nuts go… so continue to share info and be nice. And be not afraid to
post here ANY information, discovery, observation or comments
you come across that you think any one else might want to know!!!!
and -YES Pictures of any thing=
and as my brother says -rare, unusual or odd are highly desired!!!

Denouement - noun The outcome of a sequence of events; the end result.

Because I can't find one at a garage sale and people are asking $650 for them otherwise?

:D

Does it give you pause when you think about the components of that knife: Blade by Hoyt and remainder (I'm not entirely certain) by Camillus?

Wouldn't that be a hoot to find one at a garage sale!

Well.......I'm lookin'.

:)

Can the original Camillus sailor lifeboat knife, that was used for the handle, be found today? I'd like one of those in order to know what the 17 would look like when it is freshly taken from a box of garage junk. However, it may be quite collectible in its own right and therefore hard to find and expensive.

Do you have one of them?

No, I sure don't. Maybe a pic on the web? Or talk to somebody on the Camillus forum or the Levine forum.

well i could use a job there mr JH i!!!
can right advertizeing copy...

and no i dont have a 117 ... i mainly collect the folding hunter in
all its forums tho mainly in the 110 model no.

Ok, you want photo of 117 here you go. The only one I have seen in person was good but looked its age.

This one was on GunBroker.com and it was starting at $4,000.00. I talked to poster, it had been in a family, they lived in southern CA. since before WW2. Felt it was worth that. It was mint. But I would worry with 117s they could be faked. Asked a couple of people way above my level, maybe Scotts level, and they felt less than $1,000 for excellent shape, maybe. I don't even watch for it........Maybe Armand will find one.

Scott,
When he dropped the price, I checked on the price of blood, checked on the price of AL cans and how many were along the road, and bought a lottery ticket but just couldn't stretch it. Even my idea of a fair price was just out there on thin ice. Then I would have wanted to send it to Joe to check for real, before the deal was done even if I could have......... I guess we could have split the cost and mailed it back an forth a month at a time......

Armand,
Notice the brass rivet !!!!!!!! Just remember who keyed you up to this knife in case you find TWO.
