I just lost a good friend up in CT this past Sunday when his DS bike hydroplaned in the rain:thumbdn: according to another friend who was riding on another type bike. From my other friend's perspective, who has over 40yrs in all types of motorcycle riding and brands; he said the lighter bikes under 350cc have a tendency to hydroplane in wet weather:eek:. So a head's up to you guys to be careful out there; and another reason why I quit riding 10 years ago. Well, that and the lousy drivers on the roads today who have no clue how to drive:foot:

Reason I have'nt been around here since the weekend.....Just got home this afternoon from the wake:o

Sorry for your loss bro.....keep your head up. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

This touches home in a couple ways for me. I lost my best friend last year to a horrific car accident (Evo VIII-vs-Trees), and I was hit by a dumbass driver back in 2001, while riding my CBR900RR.....broke my left leg in two places. I'm very lucky it didn't turn out worse.

Sorry for the loss 1Tracker ,hits home with me as well
I mainly rode in the dirt MX style and some Cross country style and almost purchased a Kawasaki DS, KLR 650 but hurt my back in late 06/early 07 MX'n and just decide to give up Riding all together

Thanks guys, I got hit on one of my bikes back in 1986:thumbdn:. I followed the then 'advice' of getting back on and riding, which I did until the traffic and stoopid drivers really got to me a few years ago:mad:

Sad parts of this story are that he leaves behind 3 kids, all over 18 now. But still, in this World's economy it would be nice to have their 50+yr old Dad around to give them advice. He was planing a Road trip this Summer on another one of his bikes which is/was being 'worked up' for the trip:foot:

Do stuff with your friends and family when you CAN, 'tomorrow may be too late':o Now there are only 2 of the original '3 musketeers' left and it's not the same anymore:(

Hey 1Tracker, I'm really sorry to hear of your loss. I lost 3 friends and a cousin in bike accidents (all separate accidents) - IMHO, just not worth it anymore. The problem has compounded exponentially because of population explosion and maybe, even more profoundly, because of the idiots talking on their cell phones while driving.

Doc

Sorry to hear that. I have not lost a friend yet to motorcycle bad mojo yet (knock on wood). Had one co worker (newer guy) who actually raced kill him self on a brand new street bike (bullet). He had his motorcycle endorsement revoked for too much racing and stunting, and hopped on his buddies brand new bike and washed out in a curve with no jacket/pants on at 120+ mph. Helmet did not do much good in that crash.

I have had friends seriously injured by bad drivers (both had to relearn to walk, one had to have her lower leg basically re attached, other was in a wheel chair/halo for a long period, both in accidents where hit by car drivers).

I have been "brushed" by mirrors of dumb asses not paying attention, and almost hit to many times to count. I ride a tall dual sport, red, with red helmet. I weigh 350 and am 6'1" and you would think am tall enough to spot.

I try to ride as if every car on the road is actively trying to kill me. I try to ride like I am invisible to everyone except cops. I always try (mostly) to wear full helmet, and gloves, and heavy duty leather jacket (don't own any leather or reinforced pants, so I do need to get on that).

One friend I rode with, I thought for sure I would loose in a motorcycle accident, or snowmobile accident for sure, actually went in a helicopter crash (helicopter instructor pilot).

You have to enjoy your friends and family while you can. I tell my guy friends that I love them, and some may think that is gay, or lame, but some of my friends are as close as family to me, and you can't say it after they are gone.

Live life while you can.

Exactly Big Fatty, your post reiterates that which I do myself. I call most of my closer friends and family weekly to see how things are going for them:thumbup: It's a matter of touching base to see if I can help them out in any way, and they always have a big grin on their faces when I roll up in their driveways:D I have some friends whom I've been friends with for over 35 yrs with barely a sour word between us in all those years. I had JUST spoken with my friend who passed away last week about how his bike retrofit for his 'Big Adventure' was coming along. He told me everything was going ok, and he was enjoying the fact that he had all the kids off to college; and could finally take the road trip of his dreams:( Little did either of us know that it would be the last time we had a chance to speak. We both hung up after saying 'be careful out there' ironically:o
