Allah's Waiting Room..........in Ole Fashioned Marine Speak

It is as if there is a great cloud developing over perceptions, sweeping through the world; the alternative to the 'conquerer's view'. Well and good, as an alternative, I mean. But this contrasting vision of 'reality' holds sway with the elite and the disenfranchised and those who want to aquire more political advantage.

So, what I'm trying to say is the media can't help it. It sees it that way. The advances in Iraq are downplayed. The casualties are highlighted.
Noam Chomsky and others have it right. Consent is manufactured. They just never thought it would be their idealogies doing the manufacturing.

But, to get back to topic; I wonder how long the good old ignition/explosive event bullet chuckers will be with us? It would seem this technology can do things even the theoretical partical beam will not be able to.

I think it was on Babylon 5 that the Security officer owned an old revolver and used it.

Very well stated.

(And don't forget Honor Harrington's .45!)

"The party of the common man."

(I have talked to five guys who lugged M-60's in combat. They hated them. Constant jamming problems even when maintained fanatically. Hard to change barrels. I wonder why we don't simply adopt the MG42, RPM slowed down to fit our rate-of-fire doctrines.)

Well, now I do know. A gun you can't trust is worth melting down. I can scarcely believe our Government kept this specimen on hand for so many years with these complaints.

I"m not going to grab at a gun book, usually on the floor in a box at my feet for a quick reference; but could somebody tell me if the M60 was derived from Browning's patents?

Derivative of a German design.

That is the true mark of Browning. His shit worked.

Yup, we had too much ego to simply adopt the MG42, so we "improved it." Sorta like "improving" the M98 by substituting a two-part firing pin.

I propose "Improved by the Government" as an addition to The List.

I am sad for my country. We have MacDonalds and the .223; one is to steak what the other is to firepower.

Amen! And I KNEW they'd regret getting rid of the 45 eventually.

However I liked that link that Kismet? posted a while back regarding feedback on the various weapons being currently used in combat a little better. It said about the same thing, but seemed to be more credible.

I've seen this one posted a lot of places and something about it seems fishy.

I am still a BIG fan of the BAR.
HK makes a chain-fed version of the G3 that would have done well also.

"The M9 Beretta 9mm: Mixed bag. Good gun, performs well in desert environment"

Not if you ask me. The special forces guys have more choice than average joes when it comes to weaponry. Never saw any, not a single one of 'em, packing a piece of crap Beretta nine-mil. Saw Colts, Glocks, S&W's, and H&K's, chambered in either .45 ACP, or 10 mm (.40 cal), being carried by the guys that had a choice.

Don't like the Beretta for a variety of reasons including it's open top slide. Don't like the 9 mm round and never did. Can't speak for the other military branches, but I can tell you with confidence that in the Air Force we've modified pistol training with an emphasis on "two to the chest, one to the head", 'cause with the nine-mil that's about what it takes.:grumpy:

Given a choice, even the folks who tolerate 9mm want something other than a Beretta - like a SIG. That was the one item that really made me wonder if this thing was on the level.

Lots of surplus FALs/HK91's out there that eat our .308. We could upgun our troops for a pretty economical price.

Sort of.

IIRC, Garibaldi had to take the bullets out of his grandfather's (?) police revolver & cook them off with some heat source.
(Probably because the next generation of Brady laws required all guns to be "spiked" lest they hurt someone/something :D ).

I'm glad to see, as the article correctly stated, that special forces have adopted HK .45's. They know their guns, and they know what works. There it is.

a brilliant example of the saying 'those who will not learn from history will be forced to repeat it'.

we used a .45 in the late 1800's because it worked. the bean counters decided that the .38 was more economical, more 'modern' & issued them to officers for the phillipine insurrection (more islamic terrorists on drugs), the moro's who charged the officers with their kris & barongs would take all 6 in the body & still hack the poor ossifer to bits. many started having their folkes send them old .45's from home. they worked. thus the shift to the colt .45 acp. worked fine thru most of the century till the bean counters got back in power & 1st got rid of the M14 for the plastic toy, 'you can carry more rounds and the ranges in the jungle are short anyhow' and 'the arvin's can't carry them big M14's, they're just tiny' then they went after the 'obsolete' .45 for much the same reasons, economy, 'you can carry more rounds, the paper stats say it has more energy, everyone else uses them, technology has replaced the handgun & no-one ever uses them anymore anyway, etc.' and here we are facing MORE islamic terrorists with .38's again. and having relatives send .45's from home. where are the bean counters? i'm sure they're back home saving the taxpayers money, not out seeing the elephant.
