I just received the second of three knives I ordered from Allan Blade. Its called a "combat parang" 3/16th thick, OAL = 13-1/2 inches, blade = 8.5 inches.

My experience with Allan? Quite good. He provided immediate responses to all inquiries and carefully explained a few delays. The knife? Yow. This guy's work is something else. Those of you who own his products know what I'm talking about. I'm going to continue placing orders with him.

added note:

Allan explained that new orders provide him the cash flow necessary to also complete the long-standing, unfilled orders of other people. In a small attempt to help facilitate this, I agreed to pay up front for all my knives and to accept delivery, one by one over a prolonged period. So far so good - for me. Hopefully he will be able to meet his previous obligations to those of you with orders still outstanding - and sooner than later. His work is superb - ergo my willingness to accept whatever risks are associated with my choice. From my viewpoint, I will continue doing this until I have reason not to do it.

Along with posts like this one, it sure would be nice to read that Allan has gotten knives out to people that have been owed for a long time. Nevertheless, it is great to read that people are happy in their dealings with Allan.

goodie allen blade is sending you knives if you pay him up front... screw the people who paid up front over a year ago
anyone wanna take bets on when he stops sending knives and sets on the up-front money collected?

I used to feel sorry for anyone who got burned. And I still feel for Joe Chen, as he got bent over big time trying to do something good for the collector's association he heads. But anyone who is still sending the con-man money and gets screwed now after all the crap AB has done deserves what they get. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. And he hasn't done it once, he's done it multiple times. His MO is to come out, appologise for any problems and ship out a couple of knives. Then, no one can reach him again and he makes up several pathetic stories. I still find it unbelievable he claims to be a pastor. Any man who knowingly screws over a group of trusting people being in the ministry... it truely makes me sick.

Ummmmm does that sound screwed up to anybody else, the fact that he cant work on old knives that were paid up front for, unless you give him money to work on them... trust me, I will NEVER EVER be buying from this guy after hearing just that.

I understand what you're saying. I was aware of prevailing bitterness on the part of those he burned. However, having no previous dealings with him - I was devoid of anger and able to rationalize my decision to do business with him. This was my thought process (please don't deconstruct it with the expectation that I should have to defend it).

A company produces a product that I like very much. The company goes bankrupt leaving its customers and creditors holding the bag. Bankruptcy court provides the company an opportunity to reorganize along with a repayment plan. The company needs new cash flow in order to purchase the raw materials necessary to make new products to sell in order to pay past debts, new debts, and to survive. The source of that cash flow is in its new orders. Without it, no products for anyone.

Whether he will continue delivering my knives - don't know. What I do know is that unless I provide new money, I am not going to get a new knife from him. Whether he has actually been using some of this new money to fill old orders - don't know. I do know that I have received 2 of the 3 knives I ordered and he told me that he is attempting to remedy the past. I probably don't have much more to say about this.

Miquet, what you say makes sense as long as Allan is trying to make things right with all the people he burned in the past. From what I have read on another forum, he has still not made good on all the knives promised to a large group of Taiwanese knife enthusiasts, and this money was paid to him 2 1/2 years ago. There is no excuse for this kind of behaviour. Money from people like you seems to be going to pay his living expenses and not to fulfill his obligations.

Supporting someone like Allan is like renting an apartment in a nice building that is owned by a slumlord who does not do promised repairs to his run down buildings. This landlord says that he needs the rent from these nice buildings so that he can make the promised repairs to the slums, but he never does. As long as he isn't screwing the people in the nice buildings, what he is doing to these other people doesn't seem to matter to them.

I have emailed Allan and told him that once he has righted his wrongs I will get of his back. Until then he does not deserve to ever have his past actions forgiven or forgotten.

This has all been rehashed many times before on this forum, and quite a few iterations ago we decided we would continue to welcome new reports of knives actually being delivered, but there's no point in repeating the same argument about ethics any further so as soon as it starts again we close the thread. Every conceivable opinion about the Allen Blade situation has already been posted; use the search button.

The search button will also tell you the bankrupt company analogy is incomplete -- this particular "company" has "gone bankrupt" and "reorganized" so many times most of us have lost count.

I seldom give advice on the forum, but I'll make an exception for the sake of those who may not have time to read all the archives on Allen Blade: Do not pay Allen Blade in advance, do not give him a deposit in advance, do not even pay the postage on a knife he promises to send you in advance, and especially do not send him valuable materials to use to make a knife for you unless he pays you in full for the materials before you send them (stag, Talonite, whatever -- don't send it until you have the money in your hot little hand).

Please post if you receive a knife from Allen Blade, and please post new email addresses, snailmail addresses and phone numbers as soon as you find them out. No doubt it'll start up the argument again and we'll have to close the thread, but don't worry about that; we don't mind.
