I have been puzzled by the information concerning Allen Blade. According to posts, he has recently moved and is just now getting back to filling orders. That's cool with me. However, I also noticed that his Bladeforums profile indicates that he is banned form the forums. What's more, I can't seem to find a current e-mail address for Mr. Blade.

Thanks again for the current e-mail address. Allen replied promptly and it looks like I'll soon be watching his three part series on knife making. Good thing too since I have absolutely no idea of how to make a knife!:D

Yes, I remember that thread. I ordered my knife from Allen with the understanding that I would NEVER bug him about the completion date (as many others have) and that I would wait until HE notified me that it was ready. I believe he then notified me that he had shipped the knife on June 6. That's the last time I heard from him. So far, no knife and not a SINGLE email address used by him previously that is active. I'm perfectly willing to wait for my knife until the end of this year(!) if that's what it takes, but I'm just a bit worried about the lack of communication. (Yes, I understand he's had some personal problems - but so have many of us, and yet most of us still try to keep our business communications with our customers fairly current.)

I'll wait. As I said I would.

It's a shame that all this has come to pass but I'm not too surprised. I had ordered some videos from him in January and the check was cashed right away. It took several months and a couple of nasty emails to get them but he did finally send them out in June. They were worth the wait as the information they contain is the best that I can find on grinding and heat treating. The guy obviously makes good knives and useful videos. I would love to have his other videos but am really leary about having any more business dealings with him.

OH well....

It IS a shame! I've never met the man, haven't yet seen my (first) knife, but have heard from many sources that he's a wonderful maker (that's why I placed a pre-paid order in the first place). And, yes, I will be hesitant in the future of placing an order for a larger, more expensive knife. All, seemingly, because of his inability under stressful circumstances to communicate with his customers. IMHO, that's such a sad way to lose potential business.

I wish some of us here who are experienced in various fields of communication could help him out. I was head of a small advertising agency for over 25 years and I'd be happy to contribute my services. If he's as fine a maker as people say he is, he deserves our support.

But we can't offer it to him if we can't find him!:(

Guys (and Gals) don't forget Allen is an artist. I know recently Cori (his better half) took over the business side of Allen Blade Knives (A&C Creations) and judging from her emails we should see more realistic timelines and delivery dates. She emailed me about my orders and gave me a ship by date. I am going to see if things have changed before I pass judgement. I can live with a promise date of two years, just don't blow sunshine up my bottom with unrealistic delivery dates. I expect that from anyone.

I have had slow delivery from Allen before and my current order is in the same pile as the rest. I have no doubt that Allen will come through and I have had an e-mail from Cori Blade without any prompting.

As for Allen and Cori being banned from Bladeforums.......well perhaps I'd better keep my opinions to myself in case I get banned next.

IMO what is necessary now is to give Allen and Cori some time to staighten things out. Cori seems to have the situation under control, but Allen is so far behind this won't be cured overnight.

I sure hope that once he has made good, that this ban will be lifted. He may not want to come back, but it would be nice if he could.

In the simplest terms -

No one is disputing Allen's skills. He makes some hellacious knives. The problems lie with how he conducts his business.

When Allen first came on the forums, I got a flurry of emails warning me not to allow him to post here. I was warned about his past dealings, and the amount of money he owed (owes) individuals / businesses.

I told him straight up, point blank, that if he did anything shady here, he'd be gone. That if he ripped anyone off, he'd be gone. That if he failed to change his ways, he'd be gone. Now we've found out that not only has he not changed his ways, but it's business as usuall.

I can't allow that to happen, and if I didn't take action to stop it, then I might as well have been endorsing what happened.

If Allen get's his act together, then he'll be allowed back here. In the meantime, I'd recommend that he make good on his promises.

Kevin
