Allow myself to introduce myself

Can someone talk to me about the reason for the thumb ramp on the 7,9,10 etc? When I place my thumb on the jimping and apply pressure, the tip of the blade goes down. Is that the intended use of the design? I almost ground it off and added my own jimping like on my 2 but wanted to ask first.

My guess is that it is for quick shallow slicing like making feather sticks and such. More for extra leverage when using the part of the blade closest to the grip. I haven't given my BK9 a workout yet so I might be toma.

I use 0000 steel wool and 3-in-1 oil or mineral oil (which ever I have on hand) for removing any rust.

I use white vinegar and a cotton swap (Q-tips or generic equivalents) to remove the verdigris (greenish "copper rust" caused by the brass snaps/rivets). Then I follow the "vinegar wash" with a baking soda/distilled water solution (again using cotton swabs to kill the acid in the vinegar on the leather than gets dampened with the vinegar. Then I use plain distilled water to wash off the baking soda solution.

I use Obenauf's and a heat gun/hair dryer on low heat to melt and rub in to the leather, both handle disks and sheaths.

You should start 2 new threads on those subjects. Maybe even in the general for the leather stack, and the BK&T forum for the Becker ?s.
Although many of us Beckerheads check in over here, many do not very often or at all.

Plus its kinda redundant.

Sorry, not trying to be a dick, just suggestions to help because I believe you'll get more responses if you do this.

Thanks guys for the tips on cleaning and where to post. I was wondering where everyone was!
