Allow myself to introduce myself

Take the Dozier and 3rd 2 off the list, then click away!

I'd say the 9...but 7 or 10 are nice a well...

Hmmmm, much to ponder. I was considering a leather or Kydex scout carry if I went with the 9. Do folks that use the 9 handle it like a machete?

Not really, at least for me. It's too thick to use that way and the edge is too straight, IMO. But it excels at chopping, batoning and it does fine work like a much smaller knife. Pretty versatile, actually. I cut decorative pie crust with mine once. It'd be a tad too big for me to scout carry, but to each their own. Get it. Play with it....it'll put a smile on your face, guaranteed.

Fellow Beckermen,
I am in quite the predicament. I am feeling the urge to click the magic yellow button on Amazon.
The options are: bk9, bk7, bull dozier ( any one have this one? ), bk10 OR a third bk2. I am not a bushcrafter, but enjoy the out of doors immensely. I also like to be somewhat unemcombered ( paying no attention to the heft of the Campanion of course!) with equipment. I trying to imagine a scenario where I would use the bk9/7 in full since the bk2 has always been plenty for my needs. Thoughts?

Welcome to the KingDom of Becker

I VOTE THE KING also known as the BK9, unless you carry an ax if not the 9 is coming your way whether you like it or not, great first Post

KEEP EM SHARP

You should look at the BK5.
It's an unbelievably handy knife to have in camp.
It's probably my favorite Becker....besides the BK11:D

The 5 has been my knife as of late, saw cliches when first bumped into you Beckerheads a few years ago never had the love more choppy of a fellow, so 9 was my first non prototype becker, proto BK14 technically my 1st Becker, Love for the 5 is growing so is my accumulation 78 days ago none, as of today 4 and another in the mail, so Johnny does have a point as the 5 will slice ,dice, and chop when needed seeing why 1 of cliches favorites. But if no Axe 9 is your choice, Just Realize many more to come just make some room.

KEEP EM SHARP

Thanks for the feedback gents! So I literally had a dream ( is this common?! ) about my first bk2, the one with jimping and choil. I was making intricate piles of cro-van dust on my workbench while adding serrations to the blade. I have seen pics of the Camillus companion with serrations on the inter webs. Should I add serrations? I have knifes both with and without serrations, and like them when they are needed but annoyed when they get in the way...

Howdy Cro-Van,

Just get a second 2 ;) or find one with serrations. You always need one stock, the multiples are for modding!

You can catch the 2SG relatively cheap...sometimes less than a regular 2, usually about the same. I snagged one for less than $30 shipped so just keep ur eyes open. Prob way better than adding ur own serrations.

Hey CroVan......

I am a little late in saying hi and welcome ....... But, I hope a little late is ok......

Very nice work...... Love that patina...... I do hope you find a comfy seat and spend some time here......

Thank you for buying my blades.....

Better late than pregnant, Boss.

Mr. Becker,
Thank you for designing such amazing blades. When I opened and held my first bk2, I had a "this is what everyone is talking about" kind of moment. I have many knives, but none approaching the caliber of the Becker lineup. Hats off to you sir.

My bk10 showed up yesterday. Nice " little" knife, though I have large hands and it doesn't feel as secure as the 2. I'm beginning to realize I love the thickness and heft of the 2. Anyone out there use the crewman (10) for awhile? I'm on the fence, every time I pick it up, the little knife devil on my shoulder screams that's not a 2! As of now on Amazon, I could swap it for a 9 for an additional $13. Or straight up for a third 2. I am having a hard time picturing actually wearing a 9 belt, dangle or scout style.

Since you like to be "unencumbered", sounds like you just need a BK4. Good for fine detail whittling or cracking coke-e-nuts. :D

BK9 is ever so useful - and when you have it in your hand, you will figure out any number of scenarios in which to use it. Not really any heavier than the 2, but chops and batons like the King that it is. Of all the ones you listed, I'd go with the 9.

My $.02. No argument over the 9, there is a reason it's called the King. However, the window of being able to buy a bk5 (or 15, it's little brother) for a reasonable amount seems to be closing fast. Once you handle these superb trailing point slicers, you will understand. They are very unique pieces that punch way above their weight class and may not ever be sold again.

My wife bought me the bk16 for Valentine's Day. She asked if I would stop talking about knives now. I said I'll stop talking about this knife now!

Can someone talk to me about the reason for the thumb ramp on the 7,9,10 etc? When I place my thumb on the jimping and apply pressure, the tip of the blade goes down. Is that the intended use of the design? I almost ground it off and added my own jimping like on my 2 but wanted to ask first.
