I just received a mini-socom which has really impressed me thus far. I especially like the feel of the aluminum scales. Is the almite finish pretty similar? I have been drooling over the Ironstone walker with almite finish for some time now.
thanks.

I would also like some more info on the Almite finish. How tough is it?

I would say the finich the on the Almite Walker, the only aluminum Spyderco I have daily carried, is slightly more durable than the mini-socom, which I also carried. I noticed more discoloration on the mini-socom which had less carry time the Walker. The kraton inserts help to make the mini-socom more slip resistant.

I am probably harder on these knives than most users because I don't like clips and I remove them. I prefer G-10 to aluminum as it resists wear better, feels warmer to the touch and is more slip resistant.

I have a Spyderco Toad with Almite finish.
The knife is so small that it sometimes spends time at the bottom of my pocket with change. It has yet to scratch of mar.
Also, the knife went throught the washer unscathed.
The Almite finish is satin silver over aluminum (which is also silver colored)
That fact helps as scratches and dinges will be harder to see.
I like the stuff personally.
