Almost done with my WAKI....preview pic

that satin finish is looking good, when I left, the finish was still rough, but now it looks like a real LE.

Differential heat treating can also be done without a hamon - the transition between the two different hardnesses can be gradual, rather than the sharp transition that gives you a hamon.

Very very nice looking. Please post another pic when you are done and have re-placed the scales onto it. What grinder/sander are you using? It seems like it would take forever by hand but I, unfortunately, have more time than money and very few power tools.

Looks great. I'll probably do something similar after mine is sufficiently beaten.

I did a Ruck Kensai by hand, but was not willing to put the time in to make it look really good. I settled for a working finish, what I call a gheto satin.

The Harbor Freight 1x30 is only $40, http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=2485

You can do a pretty good job with it, but the 1x42 is certainly better.

Wow the INFImples are quite noticable on your ruck. I agree with the rustic looks, pretty neat looking. The Ruck is one of my favorite designs and likely another beautiful Busse I will not be able to afford.

Have one. I guess I could modify it to be like-a-Ruck but it will not be-a-Ruck. Both are great blades and I would love to have both but I do not see it happening. Great job on yours though.

Heres a quick pic that I took before it got all dirty. Ill take some better pics when I clean it up.
