Almost forgot -- friday thread!

T., that squirrel recipe sounds Mmmm Mmmm good. You guys make me want to do some squirrel huntin' :D Haven't done any for a while cause I'm always over indulging on deer hunting. :D There are plenty where I hunt, seems like not many people bother with it any more. While on the subject of squirrel hunting, what's your favorite knife for skinning those tough little buggers?

We're gonna try this one this year:

Schrade Tenneessee River Trapper, with Amber Jigged Bone Scales, and Notched Nickle Silver Bolsters. :)

Usually a Trapper, Caping knife or Bird and Trout knife.

Boy, that's a dandy. Can't beat a good ol trapper pattern :D I like the large frame trappers like Remington's old reliable bullet

Me too Scott. I was scouting out new squirrel woods today while hunting (got skunked today).
I blew off the dust on my 22 a while back when John was talking about squirrel. A few more weeks and I'm going to do it again....I think Ducks come in on the 20th. I need to check the Kayak tomorrow! ;)

I have a little .32 English Sporting Rifle partly completed. I'm looking forward to using that for Squirrels late in the season.

As far as the knife. I have a Little Bird And Trout knife I made that's a copy of the old Marbels....the one with no real scales and a pinky hole in the end of the handle ( I think Cold Steel makes a copy). It works wonders on all small game. I have no idea what steel it is, I expect a 10 series from the temper range I had to put it through, but it holds a super edge very well.

Don, I know that knife. It looks like it would work really good for that type of skinning. I hate to admit it, but probably the best thing I ever used to skin squirrels was a scapel. When I practiced taxidermy quite a few years ago, that's all I used. Very effective but it's just not the same as using a traditional knife, if you know what I mean :D

Scott, if I can fine it I'll bring one of my pocket scalpels to the meeting tomorrow.
Larry

I'd like to see that Larry. Bring the ram head knife you have on the gallery forum also. See ya Monday.

Deep fried squirrel sandwiches. :)

I enjoy huntin em but I mostly do it for the pelts. Down here it hasn't been cold enough yet. The meat's good stuff though. My sister won't touch with a ten foot pole!
